I keep reading that the Panthers are expected to have 14mil in cap room this off season.

It has nothing to do with Hardy who isn't signed for 2015. It is combination of who we have signed and their salaries as well as any dead cap money we are carrying for Godfrey and Smith for example. Cam right now will have a cap hit of 14 million in 2015 which could be reduced by signing him long term. Plus we likely try and extend or restructure guys like Olsen or Johnson. If wee oiled sign Hardy it would likely be a cap friendly contract in 2015 and 2016 no matter what we paid him in total

All I know, is if the website linked is right,.. we may have seen the last of CJ.  His cap figure is 20 m, pre June cut saves 6 Million but 14 Mil in dead money.

But-- click the Post June 1 cuts,.. CJ saves 10 million, still has 10 million dead money,.... very possible hes a June 1st cut unless we restructure him.

http://overthecap.com/salary-cap/carolina-panthers

Stewart and Deangelo both save 2 million if either was a June 1st cut,.. but Stewart would cost us 5.3 Million if but before, DWill 250k.  Deangelo might be staying. Save 2 million and have 4 million in dead money if a June 1 cut.  Stewart post June 1 says 6 million dead money.

I doubt either gets cut looking at that.  Who knows, 2 million is 2 million.

Another 3.4 million saved with almost dead money for cutting DeCoud and Cotchery.

So cutting CJ, Decoud, Cotchery, all save 13.5 million.  Cut DWill Stewart or Tolbert and save 2-2.5 million but the first 2 have tons of dead money and would have to be June 1st to save.

So i guess its goodbye CJ?  Decoud and Cotchery-- there is no way they are back. Thomas Davis and Ryan Kalil hopefully can restructure, Stewart restructure, Tolbert can save 2.4 million too so I wonder if hes back?

So we can get into the mid 20 Million in cap if we want to,...but then who would we replace CJ with? The rest of the cuts i mentioned are expendable.

The way I understand it-and most of what I read here is consistent with what I am reading---the following is "predicted" to occur, based on what some writers think Gettlemen will do, so take it for what it is worth:

1. Cut DW, Silatolu, DeCoud, and Tolbert.  It would save about $7m+.

2. Restructure CJ for an additional 3 years that is more in line with his actual worth.  Savings:  $6m.  I don't think he gets cut this year.  I am not sure what his incentive is either, but I read it.

3. Restructure TD.  He is slated to make $10m this season and is on the books for 3 more years at $1m with a $1m bonus each year.  Since he seems to have a few years left in him, that can be divided up and guaranteed over the next 4 seasons--ending his career here at age 35.  It would save $5m or so this year.

That is $18m in addition to the $14 you are reading about.

However, he needs $$ to sign the rookies--expect us to have as many as 10 draft picks.

So, it is safe to assume we could have up to $25m in free agency.

I really don't like the fact that I'm hearing Tolbert's name in the probable cuts.

Right, when Remmers and turner and Norwell got it together and started playing well - magically Tolbert returned from injury. Coincidence? I think not

Not to take anything away from those guys, but Tolbert is key to the run game and pass protection

You dont honestly think that do you? Tolbert made the OL look good by himself? He's not the best pure FB you know.

I would cream myself. To actually be able to pursue legitimate players in FA would be amazing.

This was not coincidence. Tolbert came off the new IR which makes you ineligible for 8 weeks. By the time he came back our o line looked completely different. This was due to our front office and coaching staff

That is why I wear Stayfree maxi brief shields. You never know when she's gonna blow.

When Gettlemen said that he was gearing toward 2016, when 22 contracts expire and he has to have Cam and Luke on the payroll, I imagine a lot of this money will go toward securing our own players.  Norman, for example, could use a 3-year extension and he is going to demand decent $$.

I have nothing for or against Tolbert.  He's had some underrated performances and he showed up in the 2013 season for sure when we needed him too.

My thing is hes not a great blocker, hence not a full back-- he actually misses picking defenders up at all in blitz pickup. When we played Minni, a guy ran around him looking all perplexed,...

When he runs, occasionally he will have a bulldozer or quicker than he looks spurt run,.. Jerome Bettis he is not.

Otherwise hes a serviceable something of everything, great at nothing player-- just a good teammate and fan favorite.

We save 2.4 million by cutting him, only a 1M in dead money. His production is easily replaceable.  Just the truth. If we keep him Im not upset-- I like when he runs over someone---although Kam Chancellor collided with him at full speed both-- and Chancellor, whose lighter by far, not only stopped him but knocked him backwards and put him out to pasture.

Stewart ran around Chancellor, and ran through him a couple times-- Stewart gets dumped on because his cap should be like 4 million, not 8, but hes light years better.

    • okay I found this and it sounds like my hopes for the first surgery being not such a great job seems like it could be actual reality.  I only hoped because that would give a better chance for recovery and ia a possible scenario so I just thought it could be possible. Had no real evidence of it. But I’ll be damned.    This is a detailed report of Brooks’ surgery and the condition of his knee after the failed repair.     https://x.com/jmthrivept/status/2055743129408704806?s= Sparked by some very good questions by @CoachspeakIndex, here’s some info on Jonathon Brooks: 1. Speculation that the first graft/ACLR by Dr. Cooper didn’t “take” or at least was too lax, leading to failure and re-tear. Brooks dealt with issues cutting, progressing in his rehab into the early stages of 2024 and then re-tore it late 2024, requiring a second ACLR in January 2025 (essentially revision). Notably, CAR prolonged Brooks’ rehab process through Sept-Oct due to issues progressing into the next stages of rehab. 2. Second surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who has extensive experience with revisions. He did a double bundle technique, harvesting graft from Brooks’ left patellar tendon and a strip of his right IT Band (his right patellar tendon had been utilized for the prior graft in 2023. The double bundle technique significantly increases rotational stability of the knee, leading to a stronger and more secure graft/reconstruction. Also to note, Brooks’ surgery wasn’t significantly delayed, meaning that the tunnels from his prior ACLR were in good shape and they didn’t need to perform bone grafts to fill in (would have delayed 2nd surgery by 5-6 months). Essentially, reading the tea leaves tells me that everything else except for the graft itself was still in good quality within his knee. Good sign for future.  3. Typically, you see a performance increase anywhere from 16-20 months post-revision. Brooks will be ~21 months out from his second surgery by the time Week 1 hits. His knee should be more stable and stronger this time around, with adequate time for healing and return to all movement patterns. I’m not viewing this situation as a typical “Player __ had TWO ACL tears, he’s cooked” situation. Rather, I’m viewing it as the first procedure failed, but the second procedure is significantly stronger and should allow him to return to form this time around. I don’t know why it posted as a link but there it is.
    • Jackie, any more reps tomorrow, or is that it for this session?  thanks for the work
    • How can you say they aren’t trying to win now with all the moves made in free agency? Or is trading first round picks the only way to be win now? I’d be fine never trading another first round pick again, win now be damned.
