Shaq Thompson In The First?

Surprised no one's mentioned that he plays RB too. Could he backup Fozzy if Stewart goes down? That could be a valuable bonus if we're getting rid of DWill, I just don't know the rules of position swapping.

Did he play RB or did he come in just to carry the ball?  What I mean by that is that there is a lot more to playing RB in the NFL than just carrying the football.  Being able to pass protect is one of the key ones, especially if you have Byron Bell playing LT.

He rushed for 1000+ yards and 15 TDs in high school. Can't find much about college except one game where he was put in and got 150 yds on 10 carries. He seems like a very capable backup at the very least.

HS doesn't matter one bit.  Hell, a ton of future NFL players played QB in HS simply because they were the best athlete available.  A lot of HS teams do that.  If you don't have a real QB, just put your best athlete back there and let him make plays.  Same thing with RB.  If you have a future NFL athlete on your HS roster, you want to find a way to get the ball in that kid's hands because it's gonna win you games.

threads like this make me worlds more optimistic this offseason than i was in February last year. there is some outstanding talent in both free agency and the draft that could make an immediate impact on the Panthers and push the team into final-four contention next season. Gettleman has earned my trust in the draft, and i never bought into the "Gettleman sucks in free agency" crap. he has been cash strapped. now he gets to flex some monetary muscle.

the immediate future of the Panthers is so bright, i am already shaking with excitement for next season. perhaps i should temper my expectations for one more season, but things look like they are ripe for the Panthers to take that next step this offseason. Lehsgo Panthers! Keep Pounding!

there was nothing wrong with shaq's combine. he was fluid and polished...one of those guys that made it look easy. balanced and fluid. I hpe this guy falls to us because TD's 9 million payday is coming up quick and we are gonna need that money for Luke.

I get that you like Shaw Thompson, but there was something wong with his performance according to Bucky Brooks, his numbers were pedestrian and were not indicative of the explosiveness that some experts would like to have seen. This may affect his status as it may leave some questioning his upside.

This entire safety class seems like hot garbage.  I know everyone wants a 220+ pound safety, but how many guys at that size do it well at the NFL level?  Seems like most of them just can't move fast enough.  The Sean Taylors, Adrian Wilsons, and Kam Chancellors seem to be few and far between.  Most guys that size are playing LB.

    • Evero to the Raiders makes zero sense unless the OC he's pitching them is a failed HC who doesn't have interest in trying for it again. They're a team about to draft a QB #1 overall, developing him is job #1 for the new coach/staff.  Hiring a DC with a young up and coming OC wouldn't make any sense, because then you risk losing that OC to a HC job after maybe just a year or two and that young QB has to change system, play caller, etc. It's why hiring an offensive minded coach makes the only sense.  The Raiders have to make the right hire/pick with this HC hire and #1 pick combo because of that division they're in, it's a gauntlet and you can't screw up this opportunity.
    • 1. Sadly, it's just too early to tell with Icky. And the draft will have come and gone before we have anything, FA, too probably. Njiman was good, but there's dollars to be invested there as well. This is really our biggest puzzle to figure out. And Moton on the other flank is getting long in the tooth, too.  2. Coker: Pay the man WR2 money.  3. Most WRs take three years before you really know what you've got. We'll know for sure by the end of this one and he's still on a relatively inexpensive rookie contract. Now if someone comes calling for a good, good trade... 4. This is the make or break for good teams vs bad teams. And depth development is essential. We've had a bit of that but there isn't a spot on our line that doesn't have worries except for maybe on guard.  5. I think you draft the best ILB, the smartest one in the first round and don't look back. People lost their poo here on this board when we "wasted" a pick on Luke Kuechly.  6. Yeah, I think Chuba is a workhorse. But we need to be more decisive in his use. Still not sure Rico doesn't come back next season, too. He'll get to see the marketplace first, though, and we'll offer similar numbers to him.
    • I've grown to enjoy Mike & Tripp, even more so after listening to the ESPN, TNT, TBS hacks who, for whatever reason, seemingly don't know dick about the Canes.
