I think this is what will happen. He will not sign a upper tier F.A. (to some Huddlers dismay). The signing of Oher(and now possibly Ginn), shows the path he is taking. He will build this team through the draft and fill the rest out with the best 'dollar wise investments' on the market. Don't think he will bring in older vets like last year. He will pick a few guys who still have tread left on the tires and want to play for a fair price. Get ready for the draft.....that's where this team will be build from, not free agency.

I'm just fine with steering clear of the top flight FAs.  They almost always get overpaid.  Guys like Oher, Ginn, and potentially Derrick Morgan?  Those are guys who can help you fill out a roster and still leave you with the cash to make sure you can lock up your core players.  I still think that when the dust starts to settle we'll see a #2 WR signed.  I think that'll happen after the initial rush though.

Let's sign all the WRs and Oline!!!! Then we can let Cam and Luke and Star and Dwan and Kelvin and Bene and Norman walk cause we can sign EVERY PROVEN FA!!!!

Everyone calm down. We are on the fringe. We don't need to spend all our cap until after we lock up our core players. And if we can't possibly lock up all of our core players then we have a good problem and shouldn't need to sign a ton of FA. Calm down and breathe. The OP is right and that's honestly a good thing.

don't forget he drafted Kugbila and Kenjon in a draft where we only had 5 picks.  Still, I'm glad he's picking for us.

 

I still say that was because he had only been here for 3 months before the draft happened. Kinda handicapped by a scouting dept. that didn't know what the new GM was interested in and was without the old GM who was fired 5 weeks into the season.

 

Hitting on 3 of the 5 picks is a good year for GMs that have been on the same team for 10 years.

      Yes, he's a tier above them, but you also touched on the money side of it.  With T-Mac locked in as our #1 on a rookie contract for a few more years, I'd much rather use that money that would be needed for DJ on our defense and develop Coker into our #2.   Especially given his contract situation as an UDFA, as his contract is up at the end of this year but we can keep him around for a 3rd team controlled year on the real cheap.  Which means we probably could get him to sign a very reasonable extension this offseason to give him a little more money while giving us a bargain contract for what he provides. DJ's contract is north of $20 million for the next 5 years, why pay that for your #2 WR with the needs we have on defense and you have guys like Coker, XL, and Horn on rookie contracts who very well could combine to be a serviceable 2-4 WRs behind a stud in T-mac? I love DJ and he'd be a great fit on this team as our #2, but the money side of it just makes absolutely zero sense, that's all it comes down to for me on this one. And no, I don't see the Bears wanting XL back in that trade, because they drafted Burden, who is essentially a better version of what XL provides, a player you want to get the ball into their hands and let them go to work.

      I didnt see that many bad calls in the panthers cowboys game, but the chiefs especially in the playoffs were getting every single call they could get then the refs when it didnt matter would throw a call towards the other teams.  That I believe was the taylor swift effect.   But its crazy just thinking about how easy it is to change a game.  You dont need but a single ref to make a few close calls go towards one team over the other and in the nfl that is the game.

      I don't think it's unrealistically blaming Bryce Young......to say has been a reason, sometimes a big one, in why our pass offense overall has been extremely week over the past 3 collective seasons.  I think that bothering anyone, is just being overly invested in some Bryce Young argument.  It's just a reality.
