Panthers In No Hurry

He spent a lot of last season blocking because the OL was so bad. Once we made some changes up front and the OL improved, he was able to get involved in the passing game more often. Which is why we began to notice him more at the end of the season. The team is counting on the improved OL play to continue, and for Dickson to be more of a receiving threat. With that said, he is a backup TE. If he gets 400-500 yards, that is solid. He had several teams calling for his services so don't pretend he has no value.

In the last few games when Remmers shored up the right hand side, I counted 4-5 times when Dickson had escaped coverage and was wide open but was overthrown by Cam. The Arizona game had about 3 overthrows on Dickson alone.

We play a dangerous game every year and its why the injury bug seems to effect us so much. People act like losing a top 5 rusher and not addressing WR and CB/DB/OL is no big deal but one injury and we are in serious trouble. I don't think you need to spend big but you need to at least spend. We are not going to hit home runs every year in the draft and that only comes with 7 picks. Willingness to make moves like these is why we are at the bottom of the league in winning. Hell the Jags and Browns almost win as much.

That awkward moment when your defensively built team gives up a perfect passer rating and 3 touchdowns on 3rd down in a playoff game.

Yep, time to cut everyone and sign all the big names in March!  That's when we win!  In March!  Yeah...

Keep in mind, that same team was within one play of beating the Pats.  An arrogant, stupid play call.

What other FAs would you bring in and/or trade for to improve the secondary?  Would their deals have fit into our plans versus what we'd have to give up to get them?

Gettleman has done well since he got here, and the team isn't perfect.  He's got a plan, he's deliberate, and he's going to make sure we keep our two foundation players here:  Cam and Luke.  They will set the tone for the team, lead the team.  Looking at the past few years of FA spending (since the lockout), there have been a lot more misses than hits.

I'll gladly play the slow game and grow our talent instead of going all Saints or Eagles this offseason.

I'd much rather pay for role players who can contribute than hamstring our finances trying to make a big splash in FA that doesn't quite fit with what we're going here.  This team is  young and will grow TOGETHER.  Tossing in a high priced FA diva can upset what we have going and up end the direction we're heading.

the only real weaknesses we have that can definitely be upgraded are wr and tackle but free agency just started so there is no reason to panic. We will still sign FA, address some spots with talent from the draft and we know Gettles knows how to get the right UDFAs. So I really wish everyone would relax. We have so many less holes to fill than the previous 2 years

The funny thing is, DG told us from day 1 when he was hired how he builds teams.... Draft and not overpaying for players.  You would think 72 hours into year 3, that fans and people would get it.

It might not be explosive, exciting and headline-grabbing right now, but this team is setting itself up for to be elite for awhile, not just every other season.  The guy has hit on 72% of his draft picks the past two years and the core of this team is the draft, not FAs.

Though DG didn't draft them all, he is responsible for a good amount of that team.  This is how the Seahawks, Packers and Patriots of the NFL landscape are built. Not exciting in March, but Gettleman strikes in April/May for the draft.

Great point about Cam.

I do not think we would have brought in Oher if Matsko did not feel confident about his ability to get the most out of him.  Did people complain about signing Mitchell and Remmers?  Yup.

Special teams--not the offense--was this team's achilles heel last year.  We have already upgraded at OT and WR--more to come, but we are in good shape.

Getting better overall is all you look for.

Our weaknesses and where we have grown

OT's  probably played like a 2 out of 10 last season, we will now get a 4 or 5 minimum

G's  both rookies played like a 5, we should now get a 7.

With 4 out of the 5 starters showing improvement, Oline will be much better.

ST were a weakness and now have become a strength with Ginn

All we are waiting on now is maybe one FA WR and with guys like Bowe getting cut every day or so AND the prices going down all the time, Gman is just sitting back waiting on the iron to get hot

Damn that's a fine list of young talent there (with some more experienced names sprinkled in). When you list them out you realise this is going to be an exciting season.

You guys sure have a lot of faith in a guy that took 25 years to become a GM and was convinced Roman Harper was the answer at safety and that a Byron Bell/Nate Chandler combo would be acceptable at the tackles. But oh well I guess this is why they play the games

You're a cardinals fan, aren't you?
