Dallas Sportscaster blasts Cowboys for signing Hardy

When it comes to anything involving domestic violence or really anything PC related these days, the entire media trips over themselves trying to prove that they're more outraged about it than anyone else.  To hell with the legal process or any evidence to the contrary.

I totally agree with your comment about the media and the ratings driven pseudo outrage but Hardy bought his way out of a trial and this is the price he is going to pay.

If it wasn't for NC's fuged up legal system and "bench trial" he would've probably never been put in that situation.

Yeah, the job of the judge in the bench trial is to determine if there's enough smoke to justify a guilty verdict so the case can be sent to trial.

The bench trial is so important that the court doesn't record it, defendant has to pay for their own stenographer... that tells you all you really need to know about the legitimacy of the bench trial.

This story made the national news today. Jerry Jones is betting that the short attention span of the media and the average American will lose interest by the time the season starts. The League will delay a decision until they finish their investigation into the case, which happens to be conveniently tied up in court, allowing the media outrage to calm down. Drew got Greg paid and Jerry's ass is covered so they both win. It's a gutsy move by Jones, being America's team and all the crap. Dallas will take a PR hit for a while so it will be interesting to see how much Jones is willing to take before he releases Hardy because it's just not worth it.

Dallas took a PR hit right up until 2 14 seeds beat 2 3 seeds. They played the signing to be news for all of 24 hrs before March Madness. By the time Monday rolls around it'll be Hardy who?

Brilliant play by them. Perfectly executed.

I suspect that the reality was that Hardy agreed to the bench trial on the advice of his attorney so the prosecution would show all of their evidence so they could see what they were up against. I doubt they thought he would be found guilty. They had to regroup and appeal. Then he was placed on the exempt list and there was no urgency to appeal.  He was getting his 13 million for sitting around.  I didn't hear that he even practiced meaning he did virtually nothing. As the appeal approached they decided to ensure they wouldn't have to risk another guilty verdict by settling. It is hard to say he was hurt by it in the end.  He got paid 13 million for nothing and he can get paid another 13 million minus whatever it costs per game based on his suspension. If he plays well for sixteen games he will be 26 million to the good for 17 games work and he will have the chance to still cash in on a long term deal. The only folks who got screwed were the Panthers and their fans.
