Panthers veteran players that may be on the bubble

I think all are gone except Tolbert. We should try trading him, but I think if we keep him this is his last year. Too many more important positions on a football team other than paying big money to a FB.

He's prime trade material, tbh. Could be a huge contributor to someone who needs an RB and would save us over 2 mil. We probably wouldn't be able to get more than a 6th, at best a 5th though.

Is Silatolu considered a vet? I can see him getting the axe in camp.

Ugh, I wish.  Some Rivera quotes always make me really worry though...

"Now getting Nate (Chandler) back healthy and Amini (Silatolu) back healthy, we'll have a very competitive situation. I would love to see that group of guys that ended the season come back together and gel quickly, but nothing is a given. We've got some guys who were starters at the beginning of the year who played well enough that they'll be able to contribute and be a part of it."

Still on his rookie deal. Doubtful.

It depends if we pick a guard draft obviously but I could definitely see him being the odd man out if he doesn't bring it in the preseason. It does save some cap room to dump him so that is a consideration for Gettleman.

2. Jerricho Cotchery

Cotchery was billed as a mentor for the Panthers young receiver corps, and he performed very well in that capacity. The problem his his performance did not necessarily meet the Panthers expectations on the field. Their interest in Greg Jennings solidifies the notion that the veteran possession receiver position is up for grabs. If a guy like Jaelen Collins is taken in the first, there could be little reason to keep Cotchery on board.

Is Jaelen Collins a super saiyan fusion of Jaelen Strong and La'el Collins, consider me interested.

I wouldn't worry about that from what I am hearing.

We will find out come may though.

Lordy mercy that's good to hear. When someone who clearly is awful stays the starter until the coach's hand is forced by injury, it's always uncomfortable wondering if they'll be put back in when they're healthy.

I'm almost thinking a reversal on Tolbert. I thought he would make the most sense given his lack of production last year, injury-plagued season in '14, UFA in '16 and his semi-high salary for a FB.... a position that is quickly becoming obsolete due to the h-back and single-set RB look.

Then I saw a stat where the Panthers were 7-3 with Tolbert in the lineup and 1-6-1 without him.  Not sure of the correlation, but crazy coincidence of his impact.  I remember way more miscues and lackluster performances from him, than great games in '14.

If we lose Cotchery, we probably replace him with a vet (Jennings), so that doesn't open a roster spot.

I agree Cole is probably on the outside looking in.  Harper would be next on the chopping block, especially if we end up with Collins somehow.

I also believe someone like Bersin or Colin Jones if Carolina snags an early CB in the draft.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that Harper is EXTREME prideful in the fact that he has started at his position every year for the longest time(I forgot his total, maybe since coming into the league?) and his benchmark goal would be reached if he started this year. I'm sure this has been expressed to the staff when he was brought in via his agent. If we did draft Collins in the first and Roman is not cut I'm pretty sure he will be asked to be released. Which I wouldn't be 100% opposed to however we do need the depth.

If Jennings is inked you can kiss Cotch goodbye. Although my expectations for Greg wouldn't be extremely high but his route running would match perfect with Cam esp. in timing routes. As far as overall yardage, assuming Olsen and Kelvin maintain 1k yards a piece + Ginn giving us shorter field position opposed to Bersin and on top of a Shula Offense, I think 600-700 yards would be realistic.

Our DT rotation is solid but Cole and Dwan are both up there in age so I'd think DT is a strong possibility in the later rounds along with OLB. We need more depth there also. I'm not too sold on Glanton. I don't think either gets cut unless we double dipped again.

Tolbert activated opened up the offense ...if he would have stayed healthy the entire season you could possibly argue Dickson would have had over 400 yards of production. If we can find a blocking machine Tolbert could be a casualty. Mike Tolbert from last season wasn't nearly as effective as Pro Bowl Tolbert from the year before but you could blame that on the injuries, oline, confidence, etc I guess. And speaking of oline, as far as cuts go, I could see Amini and Chandler being let go to make room.

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
