Which prospect was deemed as almost a certainty to be drafted by Carolina in 2013?

I'm a little foggy from draft coverage last year, so I'm hoping that someone here can refresh my memory. Which prospect was everyone saying we would draft in the first round last year? I know the guys from the Observer were constantly talking about Benjamin, but I can't remember what the 'experts' were saying.

2013 the main consensus pick was "they're picking a DT".  Sheldon Richardson and Shariff Floyd were popular choices in mocks. In 2014 it was "they're picking a WR" with Brandin Cooks, Marquis Lee, and Benjamin the mock draft choices.  This year it's "they're picking an OT", with DJ Humphries the overwhelming favorite in the mocks.

Man I'm glad we didn't pick Floyd.  I knew he wasn't going to be in the same league as Richardson or Star.  I was always praying for Star but would have been happy with Richardson.  Last year Moses was a popular one, but WR was the consensus position we'd address.

Me too.  I think that we would've nabbed Richardson though.  He was getting more buzz and was obviously up to the task.

On an off note, that sig brings back some memories.  It seems so long ago now.  I wish that our team had just a little more smidgen of 89's attitude. Kelvin Benjamin has a little stag in him though.

13: Richardson, Eifert, the huddle loved Tavon Austin, a lot liked C. Patterson, including me. Everyone loved Star but most didn't think he'd be there.

14: Lee throughout, Benjamin early, I wanted Verrett, Morgan Moses. Shazier got some love,

    • It's just a talking head.  Talking about gambling. If anybody takes the under on 4.5 wins, they're most likely losing their money.   So he's only saying if you want to bet on a possible sleeper, take the over.  It's not rocket science.  Pathetic that so many on the huddle have reduced themselves to posting purely trash every time they hit the submit button.
    • I mean I think the best case scenario has to hit for the Panthers and everyone else in the NFCS has to hit their worst case scenario.  Personally, I think this is the year that NO finally collapses and I think they finish 4th in the division regardless.  ATL is overrated but still likely a 6-9 win team. TB plays tough football, their defense will be there but their success depends on the offense, they too are a 6-9 win team.  The Panthers are probably 4-6 wins at best. If they find some sort of momentum during the season and get 7-8 wins, and TB and ATL struggle then maybe but I find it very unlikely.
    • We screwed up a couple years ago taking Bryce in the first place.  Nobody held a gun to our head to jump from #9 to #1.  Most people who keep up with draft news knew this 2024 QB class was loaded and we should have waited, which I advocated. It was a dumb move and I knew it.  Now we have to roll with Bryce another year.  That's fine, because this 2025 class isn't that great.  I like Ewers, but not super high on him.  If Bryce shows improvement, which I think he will, that should get him at least one more season before we have to decide on if he's the permanent answer or not.  I've said before, the 2026 draft is the next window for a franchise QB if Bryce isn't the answer. Bryce gets this year and next at a minimum.
