La'el Collins Agent: Draft Him Now Or He Won't Sign

La’El Collins’ reps tell me if he’s not selected in rounds 2 or 3, he’ll not sign a contract with NFL team & resubmit his name for ’16 draft

This is an incredible bluff or show of power in an unprecedented situation. If Collins were to be drafted on day 3 or as an undrafted free agent he would be stuck at low pay via restricted free agency and the rookie wage scale for the next 4 years. His agent realizes clearing his name and going in the first round of the 2016 draft would be more lucrative. The only question is would teams still consider him a 1st rounder with a year away from football?

I understand why the Agent is doing this. But damn is it ballsy.

I understand it's a business but.. This comes off as a money grab.

What is the monetary difference between his originally projected draft position vs say, a 4th round..?

Of course it is.

But if he's 100% innocent, can you blame him? He can just wait one more year and get paid way more over a 4-5 year period.

If he didn't have anything to do with the murder this sucks so bad...

I understand no one wants to take the risk and rightfully so...but it sorta sounds like his ex (who's kid may not even be his) suffered a horrible horrible fate and he wasn't even involved.  He's helping the PD with the investigation because the kid might be his.  Now for that, the entire league avoids him.  If he's innocent, damn does that suck for him.

    • yeah, now it's going to get awkward.  The team circles pay attention to all this stuff.  All the wives and girlfriends see the posts.  They all talk like everyone.  Football is just a normal world outside of the fact they play a game for lots of money.  Gossip travels. They know the Theilen's want out at this point.  Carolina is now the disappointed failed trade location.    So now AT takes sort of an inhouse hit in Carolina IMO
    • Ummm... The dude looked like he was about 180 pounds soaking wet with us (I don't care what his listed weight was/is) - he would have been destroyed in the run game even more than our current and past crappy ILBs. The problem is we primarily play 3-4 or nickel/dime - there is little room on the field for him because he isnt an edge LB blitzer and he can't cover for crap. The only thing he can do kind of well is be an in-the-box safety that can try and beat blockers to the spot because of his athleticism. Washington was able to make him work last year because they used him solely as an in-the-box safety and almost exclusively ran a single high FS. The funny thing is they had good yards/game stats against the pass despite most of their secondary having embarrassingly low PFF grades. Washington was also terrible against the run, which might explain why they gave up so few yards passing.
    • Just get the deal done. We've teased it so much that the Thielen's expect it. Now we run the risk of our veteran WR locker room presence becoming disgruntled. Just take what we can get, make him happy, and get future assets while freeing up snaps for guys who will be here beyond this season.
