Really Good Write-up on Funchess and What He Brings

Recommended Posts

I'm glad he also says the Funchess to KB comparison is a lazy one. However, They both will have those open frustrating drops.

-At 12:03 Funchess whiffs on a ball you'd love to see him come down with.

-He makes up for it at 16:33 with a redzone TD

Funchess shows flashes of being a big physical WR...

-Funchess gets physical to try and create separation- 4:56 & 11:00

So many media draft analysts just piggyback off one another. I've seen "slow and big", "lacks short area quickness", "doesn't get separation", but when you watch his games from the past couple seasons, they prove these things wrong. He'll adjust mid air to balls thrown behind him, he'll come across the middle, he wins deep, he does so many things that I think will translate to the NFL.

If Funchess decides he wants to be a beast at the NFL level he has all the tools and athletic ability to do so. I'm very excited and really hope Ricky and company can get the very most out of him.

What I don't like about him, is he doesn't have that killer instinct when attacking the ball in the air like someone his size should. Kelvin has it, Jeffery has it, Megatron and Dez have it... All the elite and even 2nd tier big wideouts have that aspect of their game. Really hope Funch can develop it.

At 2:05 he goes up and gets it while reaching back.

And for that killer instinct... He blindsides the guy at 1:12... But 99% of the time his blocking is brutal

Watch the hips how smooth he breaks and change direction how low he gets when making a move and the slight use of his hands... Also notice the speed he gets on one guy when they play off coverage. Then the moves he already have to beat press coverage......This guy can be a number 1 wr... The next idiot talking head calling him a TE needs to be smacked...

    • Is Canales really a “QB whisperer” or is Bryce just not that guy. I’m giving him a little bit of a break due to injuries around him and some questionable play designs. I don’t know, maybe this team is just cursed and we will never replace Cam. We still haven’t replaced Gross, Kalil, Smitty, Luke…
    • This was the risk with spending what $150 million in free agency on two OL? We should have been focused on the draft. Now whether the OL is terrible bad or mid we still have the highest amount of salary cap dedicated to the position group by far. And it's only going to go up when we sign Icky to an extension. Instead of trading up for injured running backs maybe we should have been drafting OL.
    • The Panthers are a bad football franchise. We have young receivers who are imperfect. We have had injuries along the OL. But Bryce Young is a downgrade from every single QB that has started for this team since Cam Newton's throwing arm died back in late 2018. And we have invested an absurd amount of resources in order to improve this offense. Multiple things can be true at one time.
