Massive blocking fullback not new to Shula

1998 Tampa Bay used nfl fullback and blocking legend Lorenzo Neal to pave the way for Warrick Dunn and Mike Alstott who combined for nearly 2000 yards that season.

The precedence is there. Don't assume the Panthers would not like to have a bulldozing fullback in Shula's offense.

With RR harping on the need of players needing to be versatile, the FB would also have to have hands, be able to run the ball effectively and be able to line up at TE. If we do keep a FB, that player would have a different role than the FB's of the early 2000's who were on the field primarily as a blocker.

He will eat people's lunch on special teams. No spoon.

forgive my ignorance... but isnt tolbert a bulldozing fullback?

Tolbert is capable of blocking, but he's not as good a blocker as you might expect for his size.

He's better at knocking people down once he has a head of steam than he is at walling people off.

    • Finishing up the game since all I got were the first three drives and the final one last night in the car. Hearing Dan talk about how he wants to go into week 1 with guys healthy makes me think that Blackshear & Carter, who were both reported in boots after the game, are finding their way to the IR. DJ Johnson too?
    • Preseason was largely dogshit. Obligatory it's just preseason. But our guys still mostly looked meh to bad. I'm reminding myself what we looked like in the back half of last year as a reminder that maybe we aren't actually as bad as preseason made us look.
    • For me, I'm pretty excited.  I always am.  I want to see a more competitive team that last year's squad.  I want to see Bryce continue to play well.  I want to see our running game put the hurt on teams.  I want to see better play from the defense. Now, am I expecting a Superb Owl in the future?  No for 2025.  We still have a LOT of weak areas, and we just don't know if last half of season Bryce is the real Bryce?  Or was that just a flat in the pan?   If the team sucks and is unwatchable, that's fine.   It sucks, but I'm not going to cry about it.  If we're better, then I'm all aboard the excited to see fun football again.
