Our OTs

Recommended Posts

I was looking at the suggested 53 man roster and felt a whole lot better about our tackle situation compared to last year.  As much as I believed that Bell and the other misfits we had would somehow be able to manage the season.  I think this years optimism is much safer than 2014.

Oher - I think that he is going to be the steal of the FA market.  With him being healthy and back with Matsko I believe all the talking heads are going to be eating their words.

Martin - He is going to be a solid back up and may win the RTspot.

Remmers - He got his opportunity and will do his best to hold his spot.   If not, he will be a solid backup and someone we won't we so nervous about.

Williams - If he gets the pass protection down.  He'll win RT... but hopefully he will learn the LT spot and be ready to move over to the LT spot should Oher become injured again.

My biggest concern is that Oher is the only one with LT experience.

Overall I think Cam is going to have more time to throw and Stewart and our RBs are going to have a solid season.

Martin has some snaps on the left side.  They may not have been very good but he possibly hasn't seen his ceiling yet.  The change of scenery and an opportunity to develop without the mess he went through early in his career could help him untap some potential.  Hes a prospect.

OT will still struggle IMO...but it's going to be an overall improvement from last year.  Bell and Chandler together were so laughably bad, I can't imagine sinking below that again. Hopefully Williams comes along quick and solidifies RT, leaving Oher and Remmers to fight it out and hold down the left side averagely.

Still a big question mark, but our OT roster is worlds better than it was last year at this time.  Still can't believe we went into last year with Bell and Chandler penciled in as starters.  At least we learned our lesson and made moves to bring in legit OT competition this year.

No matter what, I can't see our OTs this year beingas bad as that Bell/Chandler duo.

Toats agree.

I'm iffy about Martin though and it's not because of his whole Miami deal.  I think Remmers could be solid Oher insurance and we'll have LT-Oher RT-Williams/Remmers.

Wayyyyy better than a guy that was a TE->DT->OG->OT convert + Byron freaking Bell w/ Foucault and Garry Injurwilliams as the only depth.

I have no faith in oher being anything other than average at best. Blaming his injury for his past poor play and expecting him to ball out sounds like " but bell is naturally left-handed"

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I believe he's a 2 year player. This year as a hopefully average LT and next year as a backup.

Looks better, won't know until pre-season, or the first couple of real games. Still, I've got to think our depth will shore us up a bit.

Outstanding is too much to ask for, dominant is probably out of the question. Ability to hold their own and be competitive would be a huge upgrade.

Bell was the hottest of trash.  Chandler was even worse.  By the end of the season, Bell was by far our weakest link on the OL.  The interior OL was playing quite well and Remmers was decent, though I do think he's better suited as a backup.  Very comfortable with him backing up at RT.  Hoping Williams wins that job from day one.

    • I'm not a huge fan of BY, but he does have some clutchness developing
    • While you're correct, people are just sick of being told, "you don't understand this, you're dumb" despite what their eyes say. This applies to the Panthers and anything else in life. This board can be a miserable place, but this isn't the old days anymore because Social Media & Reddit have hijacked old-school forum users.  I have in the last year or so taken a massive step back from Social Media & Reddit. Deleted accounts on both, I only have X/Twitter now. But I was looking for an outlet for Panthers talk and I did not want to do that on X much at all. There are only two legitimate outlets for that I've found, here and SB Nation. SB Nation I used to partake in, but they absolutely bumble-f*cked the comments section, and I like the setup of the posts + comments, as opposed to article + comments. Also, as others have pointed out, being a Panthers fan has been a horrendous existence since Cam left. Just an awful crew of coaches, draft picks, trading away great players, etc. It's been miserable.  Ever since Tepper bought the team, I hoped that he commit to a full rebuild. He never did, he thought there were shortcuts and so did Rhule. This hamstrung us for years, and then he massively overstepped with the BY trade.  This ruined the team building, because there was no depth, and then it ruined nuanced BY discussions because of the insane haul we gave up. He will never live up to that, I think many people are finally wrapping their heads around that now which is good. The best thing for this board to get better is for the Panthers to win more, draft well, and to stay committed to crawling through this Andy Dufrense poop-pipe to escape the depths of NFL hell. It will be ugly and stink along the way, but you can see already this year if we commit to drafting then the team and the vibes can turn around quicker than you think.  I am extremely optimistic about the draft class this season, it's something to watch, talk about, and celebrate. It also gives Dan and I think by extension Dave Canales more of a leash, which I think we need to give them and grant them the time to turn this boat around.
