Do you think Josh Norman will be here next season?

So in listening to DG's presser, he said he doesn't like to negotiate deals during the season because it's a distraction. Josh Norman is an UFA agent next season. Greg got extended early in the season, Dickson and now Cam. Do you get the feeling the coaching staff think that our CB situation is a plug and play due to the front seven and are willing to let Josh Norman walk ala Captain Munnerlyn?

I think he'll sign an extension within the next few weeks to be honest. He wants to be here more than anything in the world, and I'm sure DG sees the value in signing him now and locking up a shutdown corner before he has a true breakout season. Just needed to get Cam done first and now TD and Josh and CJ will all fall into place.

Might not be until after the season that we re-sign him. He's had 1 good season and 2 bad ones so far. Consistency isn't on Josh's side. Gettleman may want another good year from Josh so he knows what we're renting. Josh's agent may want another good year to push the $$$ higher.

Better odds on TD and CJ getting extensions imo, but I'll be happy if it does happen

I think if he doesn't cost us a game with penalties and he continues this progress then he will be a Panther for years to come

My lord... I wish people would let that go.

How many games did he cost us last year with penalties??  0

Time to move on bro.

I hope Norman retires a Panther.

I think after TD is extended, I'm not sure CJ will be extended, we will sign Norman to a decent deal.  We can use a lot of the cap space we have now and then with a TD extension to pay Norman more this year and lower amounts the next 2-3 years.  I see maybe giving him 3 years MAYBE 4, close to 4-6 million a year, so lets say 4 years 18 million.  He's had one good year, 1 middle of the road year and 1 what was he thinking half the time year.  So we sign him early and get our shutdown corner on the cheap, well cheaper.  KEEP POUNDING!!

I would think that Gettleman has touched base with all the agents for players coming up on free agency. If Norman wants to be here and has another solid year  he will get paid well. But if he wants Richard Marshall "Pay me like the best" type money he will have to go elsewhere. I like him so I hope he does well and stays.

I think the smart move is to sign Norman now but I'm not sure how the numbers work. With Cam's contract I don't know how much wiggle room we have for this season. I would love to sign Norman before the season starts. But it would be the 3rd biggest offseason deal. Cam and Olsen take 1 and 2.

I think it's 50/50.  If they re-sign him now, they get him for a better rate.  He's primed for a career year.  But he probably knows that, and might want to see what he can get elsewhere.  I hope he stays in Carolina because he's a talented player and finally seems to have his head on straight, but it's definitely not a sure thing.

    • I hope Bryce balls out. Wouldn't bet the farm on it though. Morgan has to be practical though. He was placed into a situation where he was compelled to give Bryce a long look. There really haven't been any more practical options due to who has been available at the position. The Panthers had already put their chips in with Bryce, so putting more chips in by borrowing against the future and stacking on that by borrowing against the future without really having the requisite draft capital was a nonstarter. We could either dump Bryce and go dumpster diving for known and unknown JAGs at the position, or take out chances and let it play out with Bryce and hope for acceptable returns. Due to what looks like some good moves in the draft and free agency, it appears like we're finally getting into a position where we can take a swing again if need be without destroying the core of the team. I understand that you'll believe it when you see it, but Dan is gonna move on if Bryce can't cut it. There are too many professionals lives and careers tied to Bryce to simply accept the status quo.
    • Football is the ultimate team sport. No sport is more dependent on others for your success - including coaching. I don't know if Bryce is the guy, but I do know this has been a very bad team all around since he got here. One of the worst o-lines and coaching staffs I've ever seen his rookie year. One of the worst defenses and receiving groups (including TEs) I've ever seen his 2nd season - with a rookie HC and OC. An improving WR group his 3rd season mostly due to a rookie. The only other WR of note didn't really play well until after the 10th game of the season due to injury. Still no receiving TE to speak of. And lost games because of the worst pass rush in the NFL. And the only speed he's ever had on the field was DJ Chark. A washed up DJ Chark that played here one year and has had 31 yards receiving since leaving.  Carolina had no business moving up for a QB in 2023. They weren't ready. Especially if it meant trading your only good WR to do it. Now finally there's potential on defense. Potential on o-line. Potential at WR, including some actual speed in a game where speed kills. If BY falls on his face this season, then he has to own it. Situation may not be perfect, but it's at least NFL average across the board. I won't beat him up for being bad in bad situations on a bad team. But a 4th year QB has to be able to control the offense and make players/coaches right. The team looks good enough on paper to show what he can do now.
    • Mr. 0-2 every year to start the season in his career. Last year was the first year he ever played a week 3 game.
