Anyone worried about coaching decisions in 2015?

It seems everyone, including myself is on Cloud 9 this offseason. There have been lots of great moves that I believe will make a huge impact on both sides of the ball this season.

However, along with my joy, I have a small pit feeling in my stomach that we have some of the biggest question marks are at coaching. Specifically OC and Head Coach. I don't want this to become a Shula/RR bashing thread, but I am not 100% confident in their abilities.  Looking back at some obvious facts like slow starts to the season, inability to prepare the team after byes, questionable calls, bonehead offensive schemes, etc.

Look at the fact we are returning tons of talent, filled some holes, and have tons of momentum. Plus there is so much of the media counting us out this year, which has always served us well motivating us. It would be just our luck that we play our asses off and lose a couple due to bonehead decisions  I hope I am wrong.

Should I be worried?  Should we be worried?

As Getts continues to improve the roster the Coaching Staff will look better and better.

But the OC's game day play calling and the HC's game management is problematic.

In the biggest of big games we'll most likely have to overcome some poor decisions as we're over matched on the sidelines.

Fortunately Cam and Luke can do that.

as long as we have ron deciding to be paddleboat ron instead of riverboat ron at points in the season and as long as we have shula running the offense, i'm going to be worried about coaching decisions.

also, i don't know about the guy filling in for dehaven so that's a worry as well.

i think, tho, that we have the personnel to overcome some poor decisions from the coaching staff. i do also believe that some coaching decisions can really handicap what is done on the field as in it doesn't matter who we have on the field if the guys in charge are preventing progress from taking place.

This is a put up or shut up year for Shula. For all the excuses we can make for Cam having had no line or weapons, you can make the same for Shula. This year the front office has given him some new pieces in Funchess, CAP, and Williams. They have also upgraded the offensive line and given him Ginn back. Cam is healthy as is Stewart.

There are no excuses (outside of an injury to our QB) for Shula if he fails to deliver good offensive production in the form of touchdowns and increased time of possession.

im a little worried about shula , but now shula has weapons and good personal to work with. im hoping he implements more of the fast paced hurry up offense and not that conservative crap. unless its the 4th quarter with less then 2 mins left we should try to score a touchdown on every drive even if we are beating the aints 41 to 0

I was on such a high from the draft and Cam's contract that I forgot about coaching... Thanks OP!

Like was mentioned above I believe offensive play calling worries me the most.

And I'm hoping like hell Riverboat grows a pair and shows back up in 2015.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
