Vikings release S Taylor Mays

@Vikings: The #Vikings have released S Taylor Mays. http://t.co/j8vhzY46a4

I was actually interested in this guy in the beginning of the offseason. He was stuck in their depth chart and I thought was misutilized in their defense.

He was basically a Joker type of player and reports were he was misused at USC in college. So he's been stuck being forced to be a true safety.

I would still be interested in bringing him in to see what he can do. I think he could be a good fit in the defense if he can actually ball. I don't know if he can but I think he could fit the style of defense we are building.

the knock is he can't cover, misses tackles by trying for knockout blows and has poor instincts...but he does have 94 speed and 89 hit power in Madden so MAKE THIS MOVE!!

If the Panthers earn good XP for him to improve his awareness he would be incredible.

Now that's funny.

I remember him playing in college and he was impressive. But then he seemed to get lost, went to the Bengals and was stuck trying to be something he wasn't. I don't think he's a true Safety. Which is why I could see him maybe fitting here and why I liked him at the beginning of this offseason but was snatched up by the Vikings. Obviously, them releasing him doesn't speak well to his abilities but I'd like to see him get a shot here. We may just be the perfect fit. And he's young and I assume cheap and hungry. (just how I like my women...wait wat?)

Here's a Vikings write up when they signed him earlier this year:

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Vikings added size and speed to their secondary on Tuesday in announcing they have agreed to terms on a deal that will bring safety Taylor Maysicon-article-link.gif to Minnesota.

Mays, who is listed at 6 feet, 3 inches and 225 pounds, has played the past four seasons in Cincinnati, primarily as a backup and on special teams. He is the son of former Vikings defensive tackle Stafford Mays (1987-88).

Taylor Mays was selected out of Southern Cal by San Francisco in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft and was traded to Cincinnati in August 2011.

Mays ranked fifth on the Bengals with six special teams tackles in 2014 and he blocked a punt for a safety against the Jaguars last season. He has started 10 of the 66 games he’s played, recording 98 tackles on defense (71 solo) and six pass breakups. Mays had 21 tackles on special teams during his time with the Bengals.

A champion sprinter in high school in Seattle, Mays was the fastest safety at the 2010 NFL Combine, where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds.

Moment he became a Panther they'd drop his stats to 84 speed and 79 hit power.
