David Newton has Bersin, Foucault, Scott, Lester, Folkerts, and Teddy Williams for his 53 man roster cuts

We have too many LBs. I'd rather keep AJ Klein over Jason Trusnik. We also need to cut some lower-tier FAs like Trusnik, Boykin, and Teddy Williams so we can get our 3rd round comp. pick for Greg Hardy. From what I understand, the NFL has a formula to calculate comp. picks and you need to lose more than you gain in free agency.

Panthers have too many #45-53 types on the current roster. Problem is most are impossible to trade. I willing to state at least 5 ex-panthers will make other 53 man rosters. Dave is wrong about center spot, most teams carry 3. I think craveman is a near lock.

My roster is simple 25 O, 25 D, and 3 SP. I've done these enough to learn, you make the mistake of always overlooking special teams. So if a backup DB/LB is better at STs, while the other backups are better at LB/DB..... Sometime you keep the lesser talent in order to boost STs. Age, money, and smarts are other big factors. Plus coaches have favorites, even if they swear they don't.

I do feel this will be the best practice squad in panther history, so long it doesn't get picked dry though out the season. Practice Superbowl champs.......

Is there any reason that Brockel should be on this tab?

hes a 4 phase special teamed and ron loves him. He's the "Ooo SHIIT" backup to rb,fb,te,lb,ot. He's smart and know smany roles & playbooks. Remember how sad the ST where, that was in part to brockel being IR'd.

Tillman, Trusnick, and Coleman are the only FAs that will be relevant to compensatory picks.

As it stands now we have lost 3 and gained 3.  Of the three we have lost there is a very good chance that Dockery won't qualify so in reality we are probably at 2 lost and 3 gained.

If some younger players step up this could play into the final roster decisions.

The question might not be Tillman or Garry Peters it might be Tillman or Garry Peters + a 3rd round pick.

How many people here would trade Tillman or Coleman right now for a 3rd or 4th round pick?

A ton of these are a crapshoot right now...for example the 5th CB something that TC and preseason will determine.

Also, considering how we found Remmers, Wallace could randomly beat out Martin or Chandler for a spot.  We found him during last season and you just never know.

Totally forgot we signed Chris Houston. I actually this is the best and deepest group of CBs we have had in a long long time if Tillman can stay healthy and Norman and Bene take the next step.

Houston and Coleman seem like the forgotten signings of the offseason.

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
