Coach Rivera: Frank Alexander, Defensive End has a torn achilles

I feel awful for Big Frank. He certainly was going to provide much needed depth at DE if nothing else. Rakim Cox is a nice story but he is PS material at best now.

Addison isn't an every down player, West Horton is average at best, and Kony Ealy hasn't shown any sort of consistency.

Ealy will probably  win the spot out necessity, but this is a blow.

Beyond that, it sounded like Frank had turned his life around after going through a rough patch and then getting caught smoking.

I'm not deflated the way I was about KB, but I can't imagine why anyone would make a joke of this.

It very well could be the end of Frank's NFL career. Jon Beason has never been the same player after tearing his Achilles. He went from a perennial Pro-Bowler to an average player at best. Tough break all the way around.

As much as I loved the entertaining game tonight and am excited about all the guys that stepped up, this is a real bummer. You hate to see a kid working hard to distance himself from a past filled with a little adversity have a potentially career threatening injury.  Talking about bad timing.

It just goes to show you that you have to pounce on those opportunities when they come by, and don't take them for granted.

Recall when we drafted Ealy and everybody was complaining about drafting another defensive lineman?

as Gettlemen said, you can never have too many pass rushers.

Defensive end just jumped up to my number 2 concern.

1. WR's.

2. DE's.

3. Special teams.

Good point and it's indicative of how fast things can change in the NFL.  Coming into TC, the offensive line and the secondary would have been my first 2 concerns, and I was feeling pretty good about our WR and DE depth.

Now ST... that has been an ongoing nightmare

Wow, I knew when they were carting him off with is sock rolled up that it was probably his Achilles but that SUCKS.

Ealy looked good, but were going to need to seriously consider trading for someone.

DE may end up being our biggest need.  If we can get the run game and going and utilize 2 TE sets, we may be able to get by with what we've got at WR.

I still worry about the speed in the secondary if they have to cover without steady pressure

    • well i could go on & on but i will just highlight it by saying big difference trust me from the SEC & NFL.it's honestly like comparing apples & oranges especially when you are talking about a  LT. in the NFL you are going up against the most athletic freaks of nature the world has to offer . .the NFL also has much more exotic & complicated defensive schemes than what they are used to seeing at Georgis &  finally but most importantly you have to learn how to master complex bio mechanics where the body kick steps instantly as a reaction to these world class athletes rush without really making a conscious effort it's more of a learned muscle memory  & it can take thousands upon thousands of reps to master rproper technique for a LT in the NFL especially if you are still very raw like Monroe Freeling is    ...just saying
    • All that being the case or maybe being the case, we do not know Wharton’s timetable n the first place. They are being coy about it. Or maybe not. They say week to week the board says he is terminal lol and must be replaced. Who knows? It may or may not warrant a fairly drastic solution.  Walker is a bargain and we are not well stocked at OL despite recent investments. Freeling has yet to have a single padded practice. Too much speculation driving this plan IMO.
    • I would really love to know who’s actually making these moves because it’s weirdly vague who’s doing the hiring and firing.
