Word Around the League... Panthers Are a Nasty Bunch.

The reality is slowly Dawning on the League....  this is a TOUGH BRUTAL team... that will just start piling points on you.

ESPN...

When teams play the Carolina Panthers, one consistent takeaway is that it is always going to be a game that takes a physical toll on players. Such was the case when Texans coach Bill O'Brien, who also demands a physical style of play, conceded that his team was beat up enough when they lost 24-17 to the Panthers, and that several players' workloads would be lightened this week in order to get as many prepared to play Sunday against Tampa Bay.

Even Texans super-stud J.J. Watt got a taste of the Panthers' physical style -- and talent, for that matter. Not only did right tackle Mike Remmers do admirable work against Watt but the reigning defensive player of the year was crushed to the ground by right guard Trai Turner when Cam Newton threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Ted Ginn Jr. That block by Turner on Watt is getting some viral video play.

It shouldn't be a surprise that head coach Ron Rivera, a linebacker on the famed 1985 Bears team, has instilled this identity on both sides of the football. When he took the job in 2011, Rivera said the Panthers wanted to be a "physical and attacking" team. It sounded like a cliche, of course, but it's looking like the truth now as the two-time defending NFC South champions take a 2-0 record into an NFC South home game against the Saints, the latest team who could be shortening practices next week.

This has been the case all round.. you could tell it even when Panthers played Patriots during preseason.. and this is without Star.. and light load.

Reminds me of the Ravens a couple of years back.... when they would just keep coming throughout the game... Talent, Coaching everything.

On josh Norman... he's good yes but remember Defensive line ... its always about the defensive line first before you start thinking a corner is as good as he says he is.

On saints - Remember MC Cown can run, play them as we would if Brees were back there.

stop going into the soft zone shell when leading at the half or late in games. Love that teams are taking notice but they wouldn't have to read it in a article if rivera would just put the hammer down

I agree, would love to see the defense keep the pedal to the metal late into the 4th. Playing that soft crap does nothing but let teams back into the game.

to his defense, i am an all-pro and i cant find the search bar on the home page for the Panthers forum... maybe im just blind.

Yeah, not exactly easy to find.  It's under the STUFF section up top!  I had to ask around a few times before I learned where it was.

My buddy pointed this out to me a few years ago during our 12-4 season. But what caught me off guard is he said he noticed it the year before (Broncos fan living in Raleigh). He was like dude when teams play you guys you just beat the poo out of them. They are always banged up the next week....

Well as we've started to get the talent on our team we are seeing that play out not the next week but in that game. Teams are worn down in the 4th quarter playing us. I mean hell out QB is basically a DE out there hitting LB's and DB's.

    • That would be crazy especially to us because our pick took Williams. And all the other talent we provided for them.  Tbey were smart we were stupid.
    • If you look at almost every QB in a team with a winning record or consistently in the playoffs their QB averages over 200 ypg. Here are a few ypg averages for 2025: Daniel Jones: 267, that is with an amazing RB. Mahomes: 261, that was with a few games without some of his weapons Baker: 239, lost his best weapon and still is putting up numbers Penix: 232, Falcons are floundering and Penix ypg is still higher than Bryce's Allen: 229 Lawrence: 230 Bryce: 173 and he isn't anywhere close to these other QBs. I included two teams that are not that great and Lawrence is not that good and still is posting higher passing stats then Bryce. Bryce has got to get his passing stats higher if he wants to keep his job. I want to win a Super Bowl and a QB struggling to pass 150 yards a game will not cut it. No, the conservative playcalling is not because of the young receivers and o-line. It is because Canales knows he is limited with Bryce and has to work around him.  Bryce has struggled to pass ever since he entered the league and 3 years in it is obvious he will never be a QB that can be relied to win the game with his arm.
