Rivera on Cameron Artis-Payne

damn good question that deserves its own thread.  I think Allen being in the game a lot was part of the plan, because they wanted to pressure Bradford.  But I'm convinced Delaire could have been effective as well.  In terms of offense, is that on the sidelines or up in the booth?

With our troubles over committing to the stretch run plays resulting in that fabulous cut back run from Matthews, putting an over pursuing pass rusher on the field could have proved costly.

Delaire is not quite ready for every down or even early down work.  He is a solid pass rusher and must be used as such until his instincts are honed to help with the run.

Playoffs? What happened to taking it 1 game at a time?

Ha!  I'm glad someone caught this.  Because when he said it my jaw dropped.  You never hear that from Rivera.

The hosts were kidding him, asking him if he could remember the last regular season game he lost.  He replied that he "thought" it was Minnesota and they gave him a hard time again.  Laughing that they knew he remembered exactly what his last RS loss was!  After Ron went off the air they pulled it up and mentioned again that Ron was correct and remarked how it has been almost a year since this team had lost a regular season game.  (wow)

This is obviously not the Panthers, but in response to criticism about Mathews not getting enough carries for the Eagles, Chip Kelly said that it was the position coaches who are in charge of subbing their groups. I'd have to imagine it's somewhat similar. Obviously the personnel has to mesh with the playcall so I don't know how much influence the OC has.

This is what I thought of,  as well.  This isn't the first time Rivera has mentioned players not getting the number of snaps he had hoped for,  even Stewart specifically. Sounds like something he needs to work on,  with the other coaches more,  going forward.

Just checked the gamebook.  Delaire doesn't show up at all on the defensive stats page.

Those don't show up in the official stats. Places like PFF charts them and it's why they are such a valuable resource. Disruption is production even if it doesn't show up on the stat sheet.

it is pproduction but its just a bit of a reality check especially when debating playing time. If he was still producing like the first game you could argue he needs a bigger share of the snaps than he is getting.

In RR's presser yesterday he was asked about snap counts, and he was adamant that there needs to be more rotation and in the case of Jared Allen, he was supposed to be rotated much more than he was and Ron said that he "had addressed it". He went on to say that Jared likes to get into a rhythm and while that's understandable, the team has to get young guys more snaps so that they're ready for big plays in big games and it keeps the vets fresh down the stretch. I'm sure that the rotation of players falls to the position coaches, and I'm sure Ron has made it clear that more attention needs to be paid to that.

That's what you get with a former player as your coach. He understands how the players think and how they can or can't hold up for the length of a season. I bet starting Monday you'll see a lot more guys running on and off the field and that's going to be huge for us come December.

He also mentioned that the gameplan was going so well and that the entire sideline was so excited that it was difficult to keep track of what the rotation was. I don't think it's the position coaches that keep the rotation tallies themselves, maybe an assistant or inactive does. But it can be hard to watch the play, then celebrate with the guys coming off the field & at the same time keep a tally of what's going on lol. They want to learn from watching & listening. On top of holding off a shark feeding frenzy. So I'd cut them some slack but expect better next time. :)

Coach did laugh about this at his Tues presser saying it's still 1 game at a time but as the head coach he has to think about the entire season and how to keep everyone fresh for late in the season. He did not mention playoffs.

this.

from the eye test it looks like delaire provides some much needed explosiveness to the d-line. he does look a little wild and sometimes undisciplined but he does have the ability to fly off the line.

realistically, to have a postseason run we need a healthy 28.  The manner in which he runs is a big cog to what we do on offense.  So keeping him healthy is a must.  Once we notch a couple more wins I can get behind CAP or Fozzy taking on bigger reps.  28 taking a lot of abuse right now.
