The Panthers are the WORST team to ever start 11-0

In the aftermath of C.J. Anderson’s 48-yard overtime touchdown — which unceremoniously ended the Patriots’ undefeated season — just one NFL team remains perfect: the Carolina Panthers. Unlike New England, Carolina delivered the goods again in Week 12, routing the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day to become just the 12th team of the Super Bowl era1 to start a season 11-0.

Already, this is the best team in franchise history. It’s hard to go 11-0; the other teams to pull it off have been historically great. But despite the unblemished start, there remain statistical reasons to wonder if these Panthers are quite as great as their 11-0 forebears — and, perhaps, reasons to wonder if the stats are missing something about their style of play.

Does anybody else get the idea that they reaaaaaaallllllly wanted the Panthers to lose before the Patriots. This is the season of crow for the media. I dont think I've ever seen an entire organization troll the league the way Carolina has done this year.

Someone should really collage all the BS coming from the media and document the backtracking.

And it just so happens that..... historically... December is when we play our best football.

We are top 5 in ppg on O and D.

We have a QB who plays the game like literally no one in the history of the sport.....which makes a lot of the "let's talk about X stat" completely pointless.   Yet that is all people want to focus on.  But but his passing yards aren't what I think a great team should have.  Um, no one as even come close to playing the game in a manner like Cam.  He isn't going to grade out like you would a Peyton Manning b/c he isn't playing that game.

Where on a stat sheet does it show since Cam arrived in the NFL only 1 player has more first downs converted on the ground and that one player is considered the greatest RB of the decade.   He likely passes Steve Young's career TD mark this year.  None of that shows in a QB rating.

Cam is historically unique and that paired with a great defense.....is something the NFL hasn't seen.   Cam is just becoming a better version of something that compares to nothing.  Yet all people want to do is compare him to people that don't compare.  So b/c we don't play offense like prior NE teams doesn't mean we are a lesser threat....and we have a better D than they have had.

advanced stats memanced stats

Do advanced stats take into account about four straight games played in pouring rain? Do they take into account blow outs that only became close within the last five minutes of the game, when the defense was coasting?

The truth is this team is playing way better football now than they were the first few games of this season. I would take this team right now against any Super Bowl winning team of the last 15 years and like my chances.

11 minutes ago, Hoenheim said:

By god it will be so glorious if we go undefeated through the super bowl. There will be no more excuses for naysayers besides them trying to argue the undefeated dolphins team over us.

They would say that we are not as good as the 72 Dolphins.  Such is life.  I think the players can deal with it.

    • We agree here dawg. I'd love for Bryce to succeed as would all huddlers. I have not seen a single huddler hate Bryce for anything other than his play on the field / potential / skillset. He hasn't gotten any of the irrational hate having nothing to do with football that Cam got. And yeah I understood going into this season with Bryce again as there weren't a ton of options, but man we missed the fuging mark on upgrading at backup QB with someone who could actually push Bryce. Bryce had zero pressure on him with a 100% washed up Dalton being the only other NFL caliber QB in the system. That absolutely needs to change this offseason. Ideally with an actual starter upgrade but that seems extremely unlikely due to not having many FA options and a bad draft. But at the very least with someone like you mentioned, young/upside and/or day 3 pick in the draft.   Another note, we have a top paid and top performing OL, great young talent at WR incl. likely OROY, great RB group, average all around TE group, offensive coach with creativity in the system and good play designs (poor situational playcalling but still I put out current offensive coaching staff over Shula who held Cam back for instance). Not the absolute best situation for a QB to be in, but still a very good situation around him. And yet we have a bottom 8 offense (6th lowest points scored). Imagine taking a victory lap for a QB leading his team to the 6th lowest points scored in the league and the 22nd highest passer rating (despite being asked to do less than many other QBs; i.e. Bo Nix who isn't great either and has a slightly lower passer rating but Sean Payton actually lets him try to throw the ball deep and has him throw significantly more than Bryce). Crazy
    • similar to Atlanta and the NHL.  Atlanta has lost two NHL teams (and lost a minor leaguer).  Now there's another coalition pulling together another proposal for Atlanta to get an NHL expansion. While I'd like hockey to be back in Atlanta 'cause hockey is fun, I am skeptical that it'll happen based on previous teams' experience here alternatively: similar to Atlanta hosting a Major Tennis Tournament in advance of the US Open every mid/late summer.  Aside from the fact that Atlanta is said to be the country's largest Tennis playing city (with both USTA and ALTA, along with a number of side leagues) - playing tennis outdoors in Atlanta summer is miserable *and* they had difficulty attracting players... ticket sales were not good. So the Atlanta Open closed after 14 years.  They just couldn't make it happen, even if for all intents it appears to be massive tennis interest in the surrounding area.
    • So I saw where Luke was doing that show parallel to the game. Whatever it was, statcast something something, knew it would be a good watch. I don’t get ESPN any more but that would be one of the about few things I would watch outside of games.     He doesn’t fool around on the radio broadcast.
