On beating the Panthers...

There is no doubt in my mind that the Falcons can and WILL beat the Panthers at least once.

I mean, it could happen. I am happy that at least one fan is man enough to still cheer for his team despite adversity.

On trading Matt Ryan for Kirk Cousins? ( WTF? )

Say what you want about scheme but lets be honest. It worked wonders the first 6-7 games. It's the throws Matt has been making that literally assures me that this is mostly on him. Ryan won't get any better than his best seasons here which and he has been far removed from that kind of performance and it's like he'll never reach that relative peak again. His confidence is shot and all of the receivers have started running lazy routes because they aren't confident in Ryan putting the ball where it needs to be. Just go look at the body posture of our receivers on plays especially Julio. It scares me to know that Julio isn't giving his all when Ryan has little to give performance wise which makes a horrible combination. In short, this would never happen but I'd approve for us trading for Cousins and getting rid of Ryan. Heck I'd take RGIII as long as Kyle is gone. Ryan still has trade value believe it or not. We won't overtake the Panthers this year and that's absolute fact so lets just plan for next year and the inaugural Mercedez Benz Stadium year. Trade Ryan for picks for all I care... just get something for him because I don't see us getting much else out of him. Thank you for your good years Ryan you got us out the funk Vick left us in. Ironically, if Ryan stays, he'll be the coach killer just as Vick was. 

When Kirk Cousins looks like the answer... you may just want to give up on football and watch the Hawks from here on out. 

 

On the Falcons Draft Selection...

Long time Panthers fans can really relate to talking about the draft in December. It is an awful, gut wrenching experience knowing you are a full 10 months away from any hope of a Superbowl. It crushes the soul. That said, I am thoroughly enjoying watching the Falcons fans go through it. 

The funniest thing is that the second post up there is true. They have won too many games to get a top 10 pick this season. What they have is a worst case scenario. Peaking early in the season when it didn't matter, and now stuck watching a cesspool of anemic football with no hope of a sure thing top tier college player to help cheer them up.

Matt Ryan isn't their problem, it's Shanahan.

The great thing about the NFL draft is the incoming talent pool is typically deep enough that, aside from a need at QB (which they don't have, despite what some on there think) there's no such thing as "no man's land" for a draft pick.

Star -14th, Short - 2nd round, Benjamin - 28th, Thompson - 25th, etc.

The problem is their drafts from about the 2012 NFCCG season on are reminiscent of the drafts at the end of Hurney's tenure, and once the veterans from those teams left, that drafting got exposed.

In many ways it's a carbon copy of the Panthers' post-2008 era, let's just hope that if they move on from Ryan they don't find their Cam, and when they move on from Dimitroff they don't find their Gettleman.

Quinn has final say on roster moves so dimitroff is basically a figurehead already. 

I am not to worried about them turning it around. Ryans window is closed, but he will be good enough to keep them out any potential franchise qb pick. All while wasting Julios window, as one of the best, as well.

The difference is they're coming off a demoralizing loss as opposed to a big "Maybe we turned a corner!" win.

Slip up here and that board looks completely different once Week 16 rolls around.

It's depressing over there. I remember when we were going through our woes, so I do feel for them. They've given up over there, but it'll be closer than they think. I still think we win, but if there's a blowout, it won't be until we play in the A.

Let's hope Shanahan stays around for years. He's terrible for their offense and is making Matt Ryan look like hot garbage.

Hahahaha. Cousins. If they get rid of Matt Ryan, he is going to land somewhere QB-poor like Houston and take them to the playoffs while Atlanta gets sucked down in the muck of the NFC south to battle New Orleans for the #1 pick year after year. As much as it pains me to dole out complements to Ryan, above-average QBs don't grow on trees.

To me, it looks like they try to play a 4-3 defense with 3-4 personnel. It's as confusing as their front office flow chart. The command structure between Blank, GM Dimitroff, Scott Pioli, and HC Quinn makes as much sense as Hitler's command structure of the German Armed Forces. Quinn has some of Dimitroff's power and reports to Blank independently of Dimitroff and Pioli. Meanwhile Dimitroff reports to Pioli about some things while Pioli reports to Dimitroff in others, and both having to defer to Quinn on some things while still having to report to Blank.

Hope they keep it up and they probably will. PSLs aren't selling for Arthur's new stadium, so I imagine Blank will want to sign some big money players to bring some excitement, and rev up PSL sales instead of tearing down the front office and doing a real re-build, which would lead to a ghost-town on opening day of the 2017 season.

I've said that for a while.  Ryan is not and will never be in the class of Rodgers/Manning/Brees/Brady/Cam, but he is in the range of guys like Eli, Dalton, Flacco, and Alex Smith.  Those guys won't single handedly win you a superbowl, but they also won't cost you a superbowl either.  I said when they sold the farm to draft Julio that by doing that, they'd get a quick fix but long term failure because of it.  Julio is hitting his prime, but they lack depth, and the hope for 2nd and 3rd rounders is to hopefully be starters and 4+ round guys being second stringers, well they gave up a couple of starters and a lot of second stringers by doing that.  When you add that in with the fact they are paying out the ass for Ryan when compared to his skillset, then you realize they don't have the money or talent to prop up a mid tier QB.

Ultimately, I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see them run that horse faced asshole outta town, but as much as I hate him, I could see him doing well for someone with a team already there around him like Houston, Denver, or maybe even St Louis with their defense.
