Giants Rookie Left Tackle Will Start Despite Ankle Injury

Giants rookie left tackle Ereck Flowers says he will be playing on Sunday despite his ankle injury.

Quote

Flowers was listed as a limited participant on the official injury report, and said he plans on playing Sunday against the undefeated Carolina Panthers at MetLife Stadium.

"I practiced today, I felt good," Flowers told NJ Advance Media. "It's just one of those, after the season, I'll get it right. There's no time to (rest), you know what I'm saying."

When asked if he expects to play on Sunday, Flowers had one word: "Yeah."

You can expect the Panthers defense to test Flowers immediately.

Lined up across from Flowers will be Jared Allen and Kony Ealy. Both present different challenges to Flowers. Allen, the quick wirey end with the long reach and Ealy, the powerful well balanced defensive end.

We have seen in years past that the Carolina Panthers defense tends to tighten up as the season ends. Last year, Kony Ealy and Charles Johnson decimated opponents in December with outstanding play.

This could be very bad news for Eli Manning and the Giants. Eli, being a very hot and cold quarterback, needs to get off to a solid start on Sunday should the Giants have any chance of winning.

The formula is beginning to become clear. Set the edge with Allen, send the RE deep around the tackle forcing the QB to step up into Shorts arms.

I hope I see Eli crumple into a little ball, waiting for the whistle to blow like he did last time we played. I've never seen someone willingly take so many sacks.

My only issue with this is, Allen is so washed at this point it's ridiculous.  We barley get any pass rush on the ends usually.

Hopefully CJ, and Ealy can shut me up this week.

I like Allen...but Kony needs the early work to help us get off to a good start IMO and set the tone.  He is a noticeably better pass rusher at this point.

I agree, but I think Kony should replace Charles Johnson. put him back at LDE. Allen has at least done a phenomenal job of stuffing the run. Sadly (but hopefully), this could be CJ last year as a Panther, I rather the Panthers use the money saved by cutting him on quality depth at DE and CB.

Jared has given us honest outside pressure which is in part what is making our interior rush and those A-Gap blitzes we utilize so successful. This is in contrast to another DE posters here who are obsessed with who explodes up the field in a dazzling display of athleticism, 10 yards past the Quarterback leaving a massive lane for him to scamper through present and for the taking

Yea, Allen isn't really getting there but he is still serving a purpose.  Pushing the tackle back keeps the QB from stepping his way. Most of our DT sacks are because the ends have forced the QB to step up and not move laterally or escape.

I do think we really need to get CJ going though. He will be critical to a playoff run.

Some DE, any DE for that matter.
