People thinking Norman getting the tag is a foregone conclusion baffle me truly.

Some idea like that always gets in the heads of fans and I don't understand it at all. I am of the opinion that we without a doubt extend him for at least 3-4 years. The supposed fact (Person reported it so can't be sure how accurate the report was) that DG offered Josh $7M/year before the year is very telling (though we never knew any other details such as guaranteed, etc. which is a huge aspect). That was with only seeing Josh play at a high level for half a season, which would be a huge risk to give him that much. After seeing him this season I don't see why DG wouldn't up that amount $3-4M and up the guaranteed. Especially with CJ likely off the books after this year.

Meh other free agent pass rusher options include Hardy (bigger moron) JPP (biggest moron) that's the top three des in free agency.

I don't think we should shell out big money for a DE this year and if we were to I'd much rather go for Wilkerson if the Jets can't keep him.

Earlier in Norman's career it was certainly warranted. Didn't notice it this time(I was at the game so I missed plenty).

Basically Davis has been checking Norman and keeping tabs on him....ever since he became good at the end of last season to now.

Norman has even addressed it when asked by reporters.  He seemed annoyed with it yet understood/respected it at the same time.

Thomas Davis is the leader of our D.  Luke the best player (but KK Short is having the type season he could be closing the gap)

Because the top CBs in the league are making $14MM a year. Josh considers himself (and has performed like) one of the top CBs and will likely require any offer to approach that.

However, Josh is also 28 years old and not a guy with top-flight physical measureables. A year of the tag gets Carolina a single year at top-flight money and longer to negotiate, with the chance to get him cheaper in the long run and not be on the hook for a massive contract if his performance slips a bit in the future.

He will get the tag.

by cutting CJ and Allen we could be nearly 50 million under the cap.... We could get him and a free agent pass rusher... Vernon anyone?

I didnt realize till just now that If we dont cut Jared Allen we owe him $8M he knows he is getting cut with that figure and and CJ we would have 4.5M in dead money but a savings of $11m, that's 19M in Savings.  We cound end up with $40M in Cap space by the end of the league year, that's a Crazy amount for a team like us.  all I have to say is all hail Dave Gettleman, may his reign continue to be long and prosperous!  we cound resign a few of our core players, Norman included and still have enough cap to do a decent amount of shopping.

er what? of course he's getting the tag. we may or may not work out a long term extension with him but we'll be negotiating with him and his agent, not trying to outbid the rest of the league.

Thomas Davis has been putting Norman in check routinely since last year.  If you watch TD closely after plays he always seems to be watching Norman.  He has pulled him away from stuff routinely.

Funniest thing to me today was Cortland.  He isn't the biggest instagator on a team now and now calms down another DB.  How times change.

When Cortland Finnegan is telling you chill out.....you need to chill the f*** out
