McDermott interested in Eagles job; Might not be mutual

Kelly was canned for the combination of not being likable and making really bad personnel moves. Not being likable gives you a much shorter leash. Nobody wants to deal with a dickface.

On the contrary someone like Rex Ryan gets more leeway because people genuinely like him personally.

McDermott's players like him a lot.  And he's actually got a scouting background.

I'm sure Rivera will promote Wilks when (or if) McDermott gets a HC job. I really don't think our defense will miss a beat with him as our Defensive Coordinator. I wish nothing but the  best for McDermott, but there is no way I would even interview for the Browns job. Chud got one year there? Come on man! Wait for a good job, not Cleveland!

He grew up an Eagle fan and spent 12 years working his way up with the team.  I'm not going to fault him for having that as his dream job.

Heck, Chudzinski got his dream job. It just didn't work out so well.

I think a lot of people forget that he's being openly discussed as a candidate for his dream job with multiple companies.  If the tables were turned and you had multiple companies asking if you wanted to interview for your dream job that is the hight of your profession, you will be very excited.

I don't blame McDermott for pursuing the jobs in a bye week, we can technically be playing one of 3 teams next week depending on who wins and loses, his job is the make/implement/call the defensive game plan, and he can't get started on that till he knows who we are playing, which we don't know right now.

I get that the culturally acceptable thing to do is for everybody to go "aw you go Sean! I'm so proud of you!" but screw that.

Sean, Buddy. Listen up. You have a chance to complete one of the most dominating seasons in league history, and win the most prestigious of Super Bowls. Coordinators who do that get job offers, and they are way better opportunities than the Cleveland Browns.

The defense didn't look so good last time you spent the bye week campaigning. I'm sure you'd say they aren't connected, but why risk it? Why not spend that time charging your batteries for the many grueling hours of coaching youll be putting in the next few weeks?

Come on bro. You're a great coach. The offers will come. Focus up.

Ron Rivera, Steve Wilkes, Sam Mills Jr, Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis runs the defense more than McDermott anyways. Would barely notice he was gone

McDermott is going to be a HC at some point, and I would say it's a 90% chance it's this year.  I don't get the hate.  Everyone should be entitled to do what's best for their career.  I am 100% certain McDermott is going to give his all to win a Championship this year with the Panthers regardless of what happens afterwards.

I feel a lot more confident in Rivera being able to keep the defense at a high level with the DC leaving than I was when Chud left.  And in retrospect, that has worked out.  Chud got a lot of stats out of Newton.  Shula has helped develop him (first as QB coach & then OC) into the league MVP and into a consistent winner.  Cam certainly deserves the bulk of the credit, but every year you see QB's struggle in systems that aren't designed to maximize their strengths.  Look right down the road at the Matt Ryan/ Kyle Shanahan debacle.

And for those bringing up Shula saying he will wait until after the year to pursue any opportunities, Shula's situation and McDermott's is totally different.  I truly believe Shula is content being an OC, and he wants to prove once and all that we can be a top OC and silence the many people who have trashed his perceived lack of offensive innovation.  Shula has also been a HC at one of the most high-profile jobs in the nation (Alabama), and always has to live with the burden of being compared to his father, which would be even more pronounced if he became a HC in the NFL.  Shula also probably has an extra level of loyalty to Rivera for giving him another chance at OC when national pundits, the local media, and the local fan base (myself included) crapped on the idea of it.

McDermott has never been a HC, and feels like he is cut out for a HC job and wants to be one.  McDermott also has massive connections to Philly, and would like nothing better than to go back there and be successful after being let go when he DC.  The window to get a HC spot is constantly changing, and McDermott will probably never have a better chance than this offseason.

I don't think any fan should have any complaint for how each man is approaching their future.  This has been an amazing year, in large part to them.  They are going to give their all for the playoffs to help this team win.
