From the "Cam's contract looks like a bargain" file: Sam Bradford signs 2 yr. $36MM extension

Somewhere between $22MM and $26MM guaranteed depending on the source, with most reporting $26MM. Bradford just keeps cleaning up.

Quote

The Eagles and Bradford, the most polarizing athlete in the city, agreed to a two-year deal Tuesday that will keep the 28-year-old quarterback in Philadelphia through the 2017 season. The deal, according to ESPN, is worth $36 million, with $26 million guaranteed.

In the short-term, the deal gives the Eagles their best shot of being competitive in 2016, while paying Bradford some big-time money. And in the long-term, if the whole thing blows up, it won't handcuff the organization for years to come.

Everything signed before this year is going to look like a bargain. NFL spending is about to get insane. This is just the start.

Thank god we got Cam and Luke done last year. I'd be happy if we can get Kawann at JJ Watt money. That's how insane I think the market is going to get.

Sam Bradford has had the best contract timing of any player I've ever seen. Gets the last number 1 pick QB contract not under a rookie scale, then after a mediocre career thus far found himself as potentially the top upcoming QB FA, which he parlays into another huge deal.

Crazy as it sounds, he may have gotten more on the open market; the top FAs now are Fitzpatrick, Osweiler, and maybe Chase Daniel.

barring his injuries because those aren't funny his path from his rookie year to now is comedy gold when looking at his earnings

almost on par with the brief period in 2010 when, between guarantees owed to him after his extension and his new contract with the browns, jake delhomme was the highest paid player in the NFL

He got that stupid contract after 5-turnovers on the playoffs.

What was the reasoning around here? Talk of photos with JR in some precarious position.

If that fidnt make you hate on Hurney, nothing else could've. Then began the worst era in our short history in my opinion.

eh it was supposedly done as a cap move to try and maneuver peppers into a long term contract.  obviously it didn't work out but the people who were arguing in favor of it at the time (like my dumb ass) tended to take that angle.

    • lol wut?  Stats dont matter now?  Got it
    • So.... you're admitting he's never going to be the type of QB who can drag his team to victories on a consistent basis? Because in today's NFL, the teams that are constant contenders have QB's who can put up those kind of games will their team to wins when needed. If Bryce was anything near as amazing last year as the Bryce defenders try to insinuate he was, we'd either have won more games or his stats would have been better, if not both. Yes, he showed significant improvement over the last 2 months of the season.  Yes, he had a few clutch  moments/throws/drives in that span too. BUT... It's also very much a true statement that on the whole, he was still AT BEST an average QB during that time period.   And for a QB who was touted as being a PG who can get wins without elite talent around him because of how he sees the game, that's just not good enough, sorry. And none of that is to say he can't do that this year, especially after we gave him a weapon like T-Mac and hopefully an improved XL and Coker.  But stop trying to say he was this amazing QB to end the year who has proven he can (and should) be considered a long term solution as a franchise QB, as it's just not true.
    • In what way is that remotely the same thing as I'm saying here? First things first, comparing QB's to any other position is just asinine to begin with.   Second, you're trying to imply the exact opposite of what I'm saying here, so it just doesn't make sense. I'm saying if you remove the players that teams haven't committed to as their long term QB solutions yet, Bryce is the last player ranked in this set of rankings, that's all.  But sure, go ahead and try to make some weird convoluted equivalent for my love of T-Mac (who btw, you'd probably only need to take away 12-15 WRs for me to rank T-Mac #1 in a dynasty format, just sayin, lol)
