The Quiet Before the Storm

I have never seen such silence from the organization before. No reports of visits with any free agents. Quietly signing one depth guy. Two resigning of locker room guys. No news on contracts.

When do you expect this silence to end? Will we sign anyone else before the draft? Are we just biding our time till we just go crazy with signings?

Umm, this isn't unusual for the Panthers anymore. Might not make any large signings until after the draft, if then. There might be a lot of folks out there on the wire that you or I would take, but Gettleman, not so much.

Breathe, relax and watch the other teams fall all over themselves to overpay for worn-outs, never-wases and who-is-thats. We aren't those guys anymore.

Yeah,  I expect a signing or two in the next week. We need a CB,  DT,  OT and I could see a WR if Gettleman sees someone he thinks might be a deal.

I don't think we're going to sign an OT.  I believe that will be something we're going to address in the draft.

    • I mean, I alluded to it when we signed him. It might be different if he was old and washed up, but he's not. Sickness and suffering will never ever allow you to be your best. Eclipse that and if one has the talent and inclination to thrive, the sky's the limit.
    • Renfrow makes the team and becomes part of the rotation-- then he plays well.  Gets NFL comeback player of the year.  You all cheer.  When I say, "I called this in June."  You will say "Pic or it didn't happen."  I will say, "you all disgust me because you are too mired in mediocrity to see my brilliance."  You will give me a poo emoji because that is how you treat greatness.   OK, I'm back.
    • I did a little research. I think that it's hard to say that we're a traditionally "small-market" team anymore. Technicalities aside, our fan base is certainly not as popular as some others (lots of fans from different fan bases can probably argue that though), but the Panthers do have a solid and committed following if you look at things like home attendance and---fascinatingly---social media digital presence (e.g., back in 2023 there were three million followers of the Panthers on Twitter, ranking them #5). It's just hard to get exact, up-to-date numbers because much of the relevant information is not forthcoming, but suffice it to say that winning changes things, even if temporarily. Even if the fan base is smaller, it certainly seems to make a lot of noise. We just need to win. On an off note, Tet McMillan has fairly strong rookie jersey sales. Between him, Bryce and Legette, maybe the fan base will grow a little.
