Carolina Panthers Mock Draft Rounds 1 - 3

Would love Hunter Henry on this team. Extra weapon, great blocking, and his NFL comp is Witten. If he's half that good, it's a steal.

I can't see DG trading up in the 2nd ONLY because of how deep the DL talent is in the draft. Not saying he won't, just that I can't see it. Wouldn't hate a trade up, though, since it's going to be tougher than usual to make the team this year and a bunch of rookies might not stick.

It's so weird to read a mock draft and not feel like 'no you idiots we have a bigger neeeeeeed!'

Now it's like yeah sure let's draft a luxury TE, that would be fun.

I don't know if I view TE as a full on 'luxury'

The team has to evolve from what it was offensively last season and it has to make sure we've got an elite TE for the future

I still think we also absolutely have to walk away from this offseason with some legitimate new impact players on defense as well, but i wouldn't consider a TE to be absolutely frivolous.

I love your reasoning for the Henry pick, EXCEPT, by the time Greg retires and moves on it will be right about the time Henry is due for a second contract and did you see how much Fleener just got? Now if none of the top pass rushers are there I'd agree we need to look at BPA and Henry would be a great addition to our offense.

Lawson in the second is a DEFINITE possibility- the guy reeks of someone draft pundits are rating too high and will fall into the second/late first. Meanwhile, Dodd will go like 11th

I know that it appears to be trending this way in mocks and reports are that a lot of personnel guys think it too, but someone will have to explain to me just how in the hell Dodd is better than or will get drafted higher than Lawson. Lawson is a much better athlete so his potential is higher than Dodd and his production was better. Lawson is also a full two years younger than Dodd as well.

Dodd killed it in the playoffs against Oklahoma and Alabama, but he was playing against garbage RTs. Meanwhile, Lawson had a hurt knee and did nearly as well playing against future pro LTs on those two teams.

Unless there is off the field stuff I don't know about, it doesn't make any sense. I would be thrilled if we could get Lawson instead of Dodd.

Can't make every decision based on being scared of money

Not a fan of Hunter Henry in the 1st round.  He's just eh to me.  I don't think he's the best tight end in the class and even if I did, the gap between him and the next guy isn't high enough to warrant not just waiting until the 2nd to take a tight end if we choose that route.

Just my 2 cents though.

Not saying you're necessarily wrong, but the idea of not picking a guy because "the gap between him and the next best is not very big" is generally a flawed position to take.  It completely discounts the scouting process.  Every draft expert in the world could agree that the No.1 , No. 2, and No.3 Tight Ends in the draft have basically the same value, but our team may rank one of them as a first round grade and the others as a second or third based on OUR own scouts' evaluation.  Our scouts know specifically what we're looking for.  Fans and draft experts don't.

Basically, I just don't believe that there are ever two guys that are truly interchangeable, even if they have the same overall "talent" level.

It wouldn't be luxury it would be BPA. A future replacement for Olsen check, help our OT in passing situation check, help in run blocking since we have 50% run plays check, help in the passing game check. Ranked #1 in the postion group check.

It wasn't a luxury pick when we drafted, Shaq, Klein, Mayo.....etc or double dip with Star and KK. Strength lies in your depth.  Most people are dying for a DE which seems a  like  NEED based on 2015 season than actually thinking about BPA, but we shall see draft day.

Hunter Henry was also my early prediction at #30. It just makes so much sense. He would be an upgrade over Ed Dickson, eventual replacement for Greg Olsen, another weapon for Cam, and another chess piece for Mike Shula.

There is an excellent chance he will be there at 30. Maybe the Packers would select him before us but not likely given their D-line needs.

    • Round 1. TMac arguably the best WR in the draft Round 2. Scour ton mentioned as a possible 1st round edge.     Texas A&M did not use him the same way Purdue did. After the 2023 season he was listed as a first round grade. I believe had Texas A&M used him like they did at Purdue he never makes it out of round 1. Round 3 Princely Umanmielen, we'll go by Princely.  Another highly graded player we got in a lower round. As the video suggests, even if he plays only on passing down it's a positive. Give him a couple of years to develop a he could be a three down player.  Round 4a Etienne IMO a huge upgrade over Blackshear. I can see him in a similar role as CMC without the heavy workload. He can run in between the tackles and has some shifty moves. Give Canales some flexibility. A fellow huddler pointed out UGA running backs don't see the field if they cannot pick up the blitz. Really good pick. Round 4b Ransom a hard hitting safety that has played three different positions on defense. Great pick Round 5a Cam Jackson a massive NT in round 5. I believe a solid rotational pick in a lower round. We added a beast that could make offenses quiver when he's lined up with Brown. Great Value  Round 5b Evans This is another player that can block and has good hands. He also had better seasons before 2024. As a rookie he's probably leaps and bounds better than Ian Thomas. I think he gives us a three headed monster at TE.  Round 6 Horn Jr. Many believe he's just going to be a KR/PR player. I believe there are going to be packages for him to get on the field as a WR. His speed with TMac and Thielen in the slot could be special. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in training camp. I've watched some film and he is very explosive.  Overall I love our picks. I honestly believe all of them will contribute this season. I don't believe we reached on one player in this draft.  This weekend we get a small look at these rookies
    • You joke, but hasn't basically the whole team been in Charlotte this past week together? I'm not one to see the random dumb stuff players put out on social media in the offseason and think it means that's ALL they've been doing and not working on their game.  But it's a little strange that all this is coming out at the same time we're seeing tons of stuff with the team in Charlotte together, even if it's just working out and not even official team OTA's or anything. So he gets a pass from me saying anything now, but if he doesn't show clear improvement this season, it then opens him up to some retroactive criticism for some things.
    • Ha-ha, I bet that went through everyone's mind.  Admittedly I don't read all the comments in a thread before I make a post. Great minds think alike!
