Why, in the NFL, talent >>>>> know-how almost every time

“I think it was my second year in Green Bay and we’d drafted Ty Detmer, a good friend of mine,” Favre said, via Katherine Terrell of NOLA.com. “Now if you don’t know what’s going on, the trick is to act like you do. I’m the starting quarterback and [Mike] Holmgren would be up there and . . . he’s writing “nickel defense is in.” . . . I’m sitting there and thinking ‘I hear this nickel defense all the time and I’m not sure what it is.'”

That wasn’t the only common football term Favre didn’t know.

“Then I’m thrown for a loop when he says ‘Long yardage situation, dime comes in.’ And I’m thinking ‘what the hell is dime?’ . . . but I was afraid to ask, because I’m the starter. So after about our second year, finally I said ‘Ty, I have to ask you a question.’ I said, ‘Ty, what’s a nickel defense?’ He gets real quiet and says, ‘Are you serious?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’m serious.’ He says, ‘Well, basically they take out a linebacker and bring in a DB.’ I said, ‘That’s it?’ He said, ‘That’s it.’ I said ‘Who gives a sh–?'”

Yep.  Despite the saga that was his last few years, he's still my #1 favorite player [excluding Panthers].

This.  Hands down my favorite non-Panther.  When Favre was playing, it wasn't gonna be boring.  He was gonna make something happen, be it great or be it awful.

Geez....

What if, even just for a few seasons, he really studied and prepped like there was no tomorrow?

Instead he does what many athletes do, get by on god given talent, and don't address the little things.  He is an all time great, but how good could he have been?

How many rings could he have had?

Every single time I hear an idiot say "Cam only knew numbers at Auburn" Im going to laugh my nuts off in that guys face from now on.

What Cam was doing in his second year wasnt even close to where Favre was then. Wow the modern Nfl has become HUGE pressure young QB's.

    • Anybody got a clue what this is supposed to mean? 🤔
    • I figured as much. Hopefully he's just resting up and will be ready for round 3 (if we make it that far.)  Sucks to see. Hes been our best defender (besides Slavin) in the playoffs so far.
    • I've never bought into the idea. There's just too much at stake, even for front office people. Jobs are lost, trust is lessened, lives are altered, reputations are damaged and more. Throw in that the average front office person isn't as young as the average player. They may not have ten years ahead of them to salvage their careers. Any given year could be their last. The only person not guaranteed to suffer some direct form of consequence from losing is the owner, and even there you still have problems (fan reaction, team reputation, revenue, etc). You've also got massive egos in play on that front so it can get personal. Mind you, I do accept that there are "fire sales" in order to build for the future, but even those have consequences. They don't exactly guarantee success either. Poorly run teams often just wind up in the same circumstance a few years down the road. Sorry gus, but my tinfoil hat just hasn't fit me for quite a while.
