our next safety just got cut

Browns released SS Donte Whitner.
The move saves Cleveland $3.95 million, but leaves $4.5 million in dead money. Whitner is coming off a solid year, posting 81 tackles in 14 games and grading as PFF's No. 24 safety. The Browns are cleaning house in their secondary, cutting Whitner and failing to re-sign Tashaun Gipson. Entering his age-31 season, Whitner won't struggle for interest as the top available safety behind Reggie Nelson. Apr 2 - 8:09 PM

Whitner blows. He's Roman Harper but without the football intelligence. Safeties who can't cover are useless.

Ronnie Lott is not walking through that door.  People say a WR that can't catch is useless but Ted Ginn has worked for us.

This is a NO BRAINER assuming the price is right (and why would it not be?  What other situation could he plug and play for a champ?).  Former top 10 pick (3 years younger than Harper despite being in the same draft), multiple pro bowls, etc.. If THAT'S our weak link sign me up!!

Our next SS will be Su'a Cravens, Karl Joseph or Keanu Neal.

A 2nd or 3rd round rookie starting on the back end of a Super Bowl D?  I have warmed up to the possibility but not over a  guy with this pedigree.

Ironically he and Ginn are best friends, teammates in high school and college.

Man sucks!

Dont want. Y'all thought Harper was bad in coverage?

I  was trying to find some metrics which confirmed your thoughts,  but as I don't subscribe to PFF, this is the closest that I could find.

"Whitner’s game has been in a slow decline since arriving in town, much like other “big-hitting” safeties before him who in their later years simply ran into opposing wide receivers and running backs, rather than trying to wrap them up and make a tackle. He finished his first season with the Browns ranked 11th out of 88 safeties by Pro Football Focus, but slipped into a tie for 24th out of 89 safeties in 2015."

This doesn't really buttress your opinion.  He is not the best, but is not nearly as bad as Harper was on his better days. A change of scenery in Carolina could breathe some life into his game.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
