Defensive Tackle Visiting Panthers

The Panthers are visiting with a highly sought after defensive tackle prospect today.....

Reed is a first round prospect that should be gone by the time the Panthers pick. Still, it doesn't hurt to do due diligence in case he somehow falls to 30.

I don't see the Panthers trading up for a DT.

From Walter Football...

Height: 6-3. Weight: 311. Arm: 32. Hand 10.76.
40 Time: 5.21.
Projected Round (2016): 1.
3/12/16: Reed had a solid combine workout. His 40 time wasn't special, but he did well in the field drills. In 2015, Reed totaled 53 tackles with 4.5 for a loss, one sack and two passes batted. He is a good run stuffer, but doesn't offer a lot in the pass rush. Reed does have the speed and athleticism to develop more pass-rushing skills as a professional though. At the Senior Bowl, he flashed some of his pass-rush potential. Sources said that Reed might end up as a top-25 pick.

8/22/15: Reed was an All-SEC honorable mention in 2014. He was a quality run defender for Alabama with 55 tackles, 6.5 for a loss, one sack, and five passes broken up. Reed needs to improve his pass rush to rise as a senior.

Star and KK were better than Reed in college---notably better in my estimation. Getty gave both Star and KK first round grades. I don't see him drafting a DT with basically zero pass rushing skills in the first round. Reed is stout against the run, but is mediocre against the pass. Not saying that he can't be coached up, but he is one dimensional right now.

I'm actually kinda worried that we haven't heard much about his extension yet.

If you follow him on twitter he is going overboard to get fan support behind him...not sure if that is just how he is, or if he is using it as a tool.

On a somewhat related note, Fletcher Cox reportedly turned down $60M guaranteed from the Eagles. Short will likely be in the same contract ballpark as Cox as well as Wilkerson. Elite DTs ain't cheap.

    • The Bucs waived shilo sanders after he got ejected.
    • I'm just tired of ppl saying he's so accurate and then have to see recievers slow down to recieve the ball, ruining any chance at YAC
    • Some people will really look at stuff like this and say "no more excuses" but then make excuses to try and explain away the validity of big-time throws. 🙃   Back on topic though, as I mentioned in the other AT thread earlier, I hope that the team is still exploring the deal. If the Vikings want the Panthers to take on some of the salary, then it had better be at worst a 4th-round pick (though I imagine Dan angling for a 3rd). If they're willing to take on all of it, then maybe at worst a 5th. Tough pill to swallow, giving up a 4th for a 35yr old WR, but if MIN believes they can have similar success behind McCarthy then it could be a smart deal for them. Hell, if AT has any gas in the tank and gives them a 1yr sweetheart deal to close out at home, even better for Minnesota. Yea, Bryce loses his best and most reliable WR. Hunter Renfrow though isn't what I would call a huge step down though (if he's as advertised throughout camp), and it gives more reps to TMac + XL + Coker. This season is all about continued development and answering some of the looming questions (Is Bryce the guy? Is Evero the DC going fwd? How do the young WRs develop? How long does it take this defense to bounce back from being historically awful?).
