I wouldn't take Norman over Chris Gamble in his prime (heck, an argument could be made for Eric Davis).

He's great, but not necessarily the greatest.

I give Gamble the longevity argument but the single best CB season for a Panther goes to Norman in my opinion and I don't think it's that close. Gamble at his best was a pro bowler. Norman at his best was the top CB in the NFL. Davis' 1996 season was closer to Josh, but he fell off a bit after that.

Josh puts in work to be good, he surely did this past season by reports. Constantly staying after to get better and it showed. We lose his work ethic, his passion, his aggressiveness and a good player on the defensive side of the ball, the side of the ball where you gain stars not lose them

And then he's going to the Redskins. Oh god no please go elsewhere Josh. I have to see these mfers post on this other site and thats all I'm going to hear next season. fug that bum ass team

That phrase "for one season" is kind of a big deal.

Lots of guys who have one great season don't have another.

I never said anything remotely like this. I don't have any issue with a player trying to maximize their income, but I've grown tired of Norman telling everyone how great he is all the time and constantly talking about money.

I promise you he'll end up regretting this decision because once you include taxes and cost of living, I doubt the difference in money is that significant.  But with Norman it is all about ego.

Sorry, I didn't mean you in particular. Should have phrased it better.

I don't care how you try to paint it. If he goes elsewhere, it is CLEARLY about the money...

Should it not be? This is what he does for a living. Would you not leave your job if you were offered a much better salary elsewhere, even if the job is further from home and with an overall shittier company?

It can be about the money. That is fine. But if it is about the money, don't try to represent it like it isn't about the money.

Like I said, I would love to have the problem of taking 9-10 million instead of 13-16 million. But I wouldn't lie to my coworkers, employers, and myself and act like I don't care about the money and say it is about respect or some other such nonsense.

He's very good in our system, and that's not an insult.

Truth be told, I'd say the same thing about Sherman, Peterson...probably every other corner with the possible exception of Darrelle Revis. There really aren't that many true 'shutdown corners' out there.

Unfortunately, Norman isn't one either, but he wanted to be paid like he is.

You can take virtually any CB and put him in a bad fit....and he will suffer.

Hell, Revis Island didn't exist when he was in Tampa.  Many forget that.  They basically asked Revis to play similar to Norman.   Could argue Norman is better at what he does than if Revis is asked to.

fug this bullshit.. i just want the season to start so we don't have to talk about him leaving.. this is almost as bad as Smitty leaving because Josh is going to the Skins.. I am working from home today and can basically drive 5 minutes and see Josh right now.. that's how close i live to the Skins facility..

    • Damn I liked A'Shawn too. This is basically a heads up we're planning on cutting you move.  Robinson wasn't the best but I loved his attitude and effort on the field. He held that entire dline together when Brown went down iirc..granted we finished that season as the worst rushing defense in modern NFL history.  If Wharton would have performed up to atleast half of his salary last season, I'd feel a little better about it. We do need that cap space though.
    • 13. Carolina is coming. The Panthers are well thought of around the league. Their "process" seems sound. I think their off-season will be very interesting to keep an eye on. They made the playoffs, but they're not yet knocking on the door. (Offense was 26th in EPA/play.) I think it's imperative they don't overestimate where they are in their build. They can't throw a ton of money around in FA to "make a run now". They need to be intentional about building a solid foundation. (IMO) And from what I know about the team... I think they will be. Sidenote: I have my eye on offense there, not defense. They HAVE to leave next season with a strong opinion on Bryce Young. They need to put pieces around him to do that. Can't be left wondering what he would have looked like with "better OL play" or "more pass catchers". They have to know. (That part is purely my opinion. No one told me that.) https://x.com/lindsay_rhodes/status/2027212533417869499?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • Because this DL is completely reliant on Brown being available and being a stud. Without him we were the worst D in history. The Wharton signing last year reeked of desperation. He just isn't a great fit for us schematically and I think we panicked a little bit when we missed out on Milton Williams who would have been a great fit.
