AJ Hawk Released

The Bengals just released AJ Hawk. I think this is the most interesting veteran release so far. AJ could be signed for a cheaper vet contract, play behind all three lineback positions, and even contribute on special teams. 

Solid pick up before the draft (where we know Rivera/Gettleman loves getting LBs late), or see what Mayo has?

Had to do a double take thought it said AJ Klein. Almost flipped my poo.

 

Don't want Hawk. Shell of himself at this point in his career. Besides DG won't sign a FA until after the draft so as not to risk losing the Norman comp pick.

The players association agreed a couple years back there is only one AJ allowed per team.

Ah, yeah. But we exceed our Cameron quota, so I thought we might've had some sort of leeway.

He's better in a 3-4, and he's not that good anymore

Hawk never lived up to his hype coming out of college.  He just didn't have the sideline to sideline speed to excel in the NFL.  

Now he's older and even slower.  No thanks.  We have guys like Klein and Mayo who are younger, cheaper, and similar players.

Nope, I mean similar as in big bodied LBs who are stiff hipped and have limited straight line speed.  The difference is that we got those guys in the mid-rounds while Hawk was a top 5 overall pick.

Someone is going to draft another one in the 1st round this year.  His name is Reggie Ragland.  It'll be a mistake.

He'd be a backup LB that probably doesn't play special teams. At best he is a very minor upgrade over Klein. I see absolutely no use for him on the Panthers and we've got the vet thing covered with at LB with TD.
