Voth predicts Hunter Henry

But the Panthers need corners and pass rushers, and they already have

Greg Olsen!

Can you imagine the draft grades Gettleman will get if he does this?

That's not why I'm going with Henry. OK, that may be a small part of it, but mostly, it just makes sense.

As I wrote last week, one of the most underrated moves of the offseason was one Carolina didn't pull off. They tried adding tight end Jared Cook, who wound up in Green Bay.

The Panthers want to compliment Olsen with another pass-catching end, and Henry is by far and away the best at his position in this draft. The drop-off from him to other ends is cliff-like, especially compared to positions like defensive end, defensive tackle and cornerback.

And remember, the Panthers aren't just trying to win a Super Bowl. The draft is arguably their most important step in building toward sustained success.

Olsen seems to be getting better every year, but he's 31 and going into his 10th season. Thomas Davis seems to be getting better every year, too. But the Panthers took Thompson last year, as the 32-year-old Davis was going into his 11th season.

I think I've come full circle and now fully want Hunter tomorrow night. When all else fails, give me the clear cut best guy at his position, over the 4th or 5th option that has some issues in his game. There's secondary, DL, and a little WR depth in this draft, not so much at TE.

Plus, the whole if Olsen were to get hurt thing? Yeah...really don't want to see what starting Ed Dickson does to this offense. Also another reason I'd be on board with Ryan Kelly if he's there at 30 as the successor to Kalil,

I would love it. Yes we were interested in Jared Cook but remember a few years ago we almost took Tyler Eifert in the 1st. We have been attempting to upgrade this position for years now. Hunter did not drop a ball last year and played in an NFL offensive system, he's ready to play right now. Perfect fit.

I hope Voth is right, I think he predicted Shaq Thompson last year.

I'm on board. The thought of having two massive pass-catching tight ends with KB and Funch outside hits me all in the feels. Not sure how you defend those 4 + Cam.

Agreed. Olsen is on the back end of his career. Having a young rookie to train/learn from him for the next year or two would be awesome.

There's a reason that picking Henry would make a ton of sense that I haven't seen discussed.  Teams easily take Olsen out of the game...not by bracketing him...but by blitzing.  Olsen has his least productive games against blitz heavy teams, because Olsen will stay in and block, eliminating our biggest receiving threat.  Having a second pass catching tight end will allow Cam a security blanket down the seams even in those blitzing situations.  I would love this pick!

Honestly I think there are several folks who could help us this draft and Henry is one of them. Given Gettleman is good at finding gems throughout the draft and will move up if he sees guys fall that he really wants it really doesn't matter who we pick. Going BPA means you won't be reaching and you will get quality guys with whoever you pick.   I could totally get behind this pick. After all I really hoped we would pick Olsen when he came into the league and was thrilled when we got him for a third in a trade.. I think we will pick a DE and a ,safety as well in this draft. I just have no idea who or when. It just depends on who is available.

    • yeah, I can get a little of that.  But that's not what he is posting in his argument just now though.   He said people wouldn't even concede to the literal ability to do it when pressed on the literal ability.  I have never seen that.  He maintains it exists somewhere.  I mean, using anomaly games to make arguments about players just isn't the way.   There wasn't a defender within 10 yards of our guys on 2 of those 3 throws Sunday.  No one within 5 on the 3rd.   That's not Bryce Young answering questions about his play downfield..  That's Bryce Young taking advantage of coverage busts by a bad D.  Which hey, that's part of the game too.  Recognition and seeing the field.   It can't totally be dismissed.   That's still good play.  You want your QBs to make those plays.  But it's not getting into the long standing critique of BY IMO.
    • Deserved, I wouldn’t use that word. Asked for? For sure. Am I upset over it? No.  People forget that AT was throwing his helmet in frustration last season over his QB’s ineptitude. The same QB was pretty inept to start this year, no guarantee AT would have helped him in those games any more than he did last year.  Just sayin.  And Dan doing him a solid probably did not go unnoticed by players around the league. I think it increases his rep with potential FAs. It sure can’t hurt it.
    • You think that was the fault of the guy that was lighting it up or maybe the bums around him? Funnily enough, those bums are still being bums in his absence. Who would have thought!
