Cam Newton says he let people down with post-Super Bowl news conference

The league's 2015 MVP apparently has come around in taking some responsibility for his abbreviated postgame news conference following a 24-10 loss to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50.

Newton didn't apologize for walking out on media after giving short answers to 13 questions. Two days after the game, he admitted he's "a sore loser" and he wasn't going to "bend for anybody's expectations."

But in the latest edition of Ebony, Newton admitted he could have handled the situation better.

"The truth is, I represent something way bigger than myself," Newton told the magazine. "I'm doing it for [my fans and family] and I felt like I let them down."

Carolina coach Ron Rivera defended his quarterback at the NFL owners meeting, suggesting players from the losing team shouldn't be put in the position Newton was.

^^^^ I agree. Let the winning team have their time. Maybe interview the losing team maybe the next day or something

Didn't help that the fuggin NFL would put the Broncos D right next to him and blast their press conference while Cam had his.

"But But But Russel took it like a man". Well was Russel listening to Malcolm Butler live it up right next to him?

"Well...Cam is a thug and steals laptops"

    • That's a very incorrect statement right off the bat, coaches get fired for winning ugly all the time.  Every coach of a playoff team that then gets fired, got fired because they won ugly and didn't improve their players enough to win in the postseason. Guys like Andy Reid have been fired for "winning ugly" like you said, because they kept winning in spite of the improvement of their players. Also, "this is a fanbase starved for wins" is a statement I also don't agree with, I'm not "starved for wins", I'm "starved for a winning and contending franchise" which are two VERY different things. If the team and fans just want to win some games, then that's a loser mentality, sorry, but it is.  We should want to contend, not win a handful of games.  Every time this comes up I point back to the Lions the last 5 years or so.  They were losing games but improving every week while doing so a few years back.  THAT is how you improve as a franchise and move the needle towards contending, not winning games ugly.
    • Good lord. I don’t think I have ever seen a hole that open.
    • this is true.  But NFL Ss and defenses are actively taking that away and playing to take them away vs most teams.  The problem thus far in BY's career......is they are cheating and not respecting the deep game which makes the smaller/mid range game harder to pull off.  and Dallas is an anomaly game.  using those random games that run counter to vast work......doesn't really change the discussion/issues in Carolina.  Bryce Young took the shots this week because they were not just NFL open but college open.    Wide open dudes downfield that really were coverage busts/issues.
