The 2016 Carolina Panthers rookie camp has finally arrived.

The first practice consisted of light drills and installs where players are taught their roles and responsibilities in the Panthers schemes. The key for these rookies, and the difference between making and not making the squad, will be how well they retain and execute what they learned.

Vernon Butler, the first round pick, of course got most of the media attention. Here is what I noticed about the big fella....

Butler isn't all that tall, but that is not necessarily a disadvantage at his position. Afterall, Warren Sapp was the same playing height. Sometimes a lower center of gravity is a good thing if it can be worked as an advantage.

I was impressed with Butler's speed off the snap. His feet move more like a defensive end than a defensive tackle. Notice how much ahead of the other guys he is here. That is what makes a first round pick a first round pick.

Of course, it is difficult to say much else about Butler at this point. With no contact being allowed his speed and agility in drills are the only things to take notice of.

Off the field, Butler is a very likable character and spend quite a bit of time speaking with the media. For a rookie is as outgoing and personable as I have met.

    • there is one common denominator in the 2003 & 2015 Carolina Panthers teams they both had ELITE top tier Qb play.  it would require a MVP type of season from Bryce Young to have the same type of success that Jake Delhomme had in  2003 & or Cam Newton in 2015 & lead this team to a SuperBowl is this going to happen or is there any reason to believe Bryce Young is capable of playing similar to Jake Delhomme in 2003 or Cam Newton in 2015 ? well no there is no absolutely NO reason whatsoever to believe that this is going to happen in 2026 ..just saying
    • I'd actually like to see Cherelus get a fair shot to win the job in camp. Wallace is decent in drop zone coverage, but he gets abused in the play action game and is often times out of position in the run game. It might just be me, but I swear every time I watch Wallace play, I see multiple plays a game were it looks like he's just trying to be blocked. Watching Cherelus last year he at least looked like he was trying to hit someone on every play. Wallace plays like a LB who doesn't trust what he sees and it makes him passive and cautious versus Cherelus who regardless of if his decision is right or wrong goes at it 100%.
    • Agreed.  Hasn’t happened to me either, but I feel very strongly about it.  That’s not just one of the worst things a woman could do to a man, it’s a power inherent to only women and is one of the worst things a HUMAN being can do to another.  A man can’t “hide” a pregnancy or maternity.  It’s impossible.  And that sucks for anyone that has to go through that. I always got a weird vibe off her and just found her very unlikeable.  Annoying even.  I’ve always been good at reading people and there was just something about her to me that was off-putting, somewhere under the surface.  And here we are…  she is despicable.
