Yeah, this is tough. I almost think there is nothing other than the tag with him. I can't imagine Short taking $15M or less and I don't think at 28 (post 2016) with only 1 spectacular season that we'll give him a Cox level deal.

damn I didn't realize short was actually older than Cam.

The cornerbacks had to clean up after Coleman a lot last season. Many of you do not realize how many times he let receivers get by him, how many poor angles he took, and how many times he missed tackles.

Getting interceptions while playing center field as FS is a luxury afforded a safety from their corners reducing the field they have to cover and the LBs being able to effectively take care of the underneath coverage.

If Coleman is moving to SS, you all are going to wish he never got the extension. Roman Harper is 10x better at SS than Coleman, and Harper was average for a SS at this point in his career. Tre Boston is a FS. You do not want Boston at SS. The Panthers would be better with Colin Jones at SS than Coleman or Boston.

If we didn't tag Norman, we won't tag Short if we don't intend on signing him. I think Gettleman has proved he respects his players too much to use the franchise tag if there is no chance of a deal being made.

You are like a clock that's missing its hands.

I like this move a lot.  Of course we've yet to see contract numbers, but knowing Gettleman, they'll be sane.

Here's why it's such a good move:

We're expecting a lot of Kurt as the veteran leader of the secondary this season.   It sends a good message to the young'uns if this is a guy the team has trusted enough to give him an extension.  You want young players to know the team has confidence in this guy, that his opinion / advice matters, that he's someone they can model themselves after.  A 3 year extension says all that.

Sure, it's a business and we'll sometimes have to let stars like J-NO walk because we can't afford to pay everybody.  But Kurt is exactly the type of guy we should pay given how he produced for us last year now that we have the Cap room to do so.  It's good to reward leadership & excellent play.  Gettleman has said he wants to get away from yearly turnover in the secondary.  With an affordable solid vet in Coleman, plus Bene, Tre and our 3 new rookie CBs, we should have a solid foundation to build on.

Yes, there's some risk that Coleman will regress without J-No and given that he's switching positions,.  But I think it is a risk well worth taking and that the benefits of doing this signing now far outweigh the risks,

We did tag Norman. He wouldn't sign it.

I am sure the actual numbers will come out later today when he actually signs the deal.  Coleman was a part time player in Philly and KC.  He fits into our scheme and has become a full time starter.  He could sign a better deal elsewhere but it might explode in his face because he may not fit like he does here.

It is a good team, a great locker room and a perfect fit for him.  He is smart enough to realize he has home.  Why take more money only to be released a year later.   see Ted Ginn.

Glad you are here Kurt Coleman.

Yes! DG getting the job done. I hope for one more extension before the season (excluding KK), and that's Norwell. I think this will be great continuity wise for the secondary. I have high hopes for Tre this season, and if he and Kurt can form a good partnership back there, it will make it a lot easier for our young CBs. Knowing DG, the numbers will not be to much

Coleman was 3rd on the team behind Luke and TD in tackles and first in interception. Nobody was cleaning up for him despite what you post showing one bad play. Bad plays can be found for our all pro defensive players as well.

Don't waste your breath responding logical statements to him.

    • I would say that he's pulling things out of his ass to get people to visit his site.
    • Yep. I was hoping for and calling for a day three guy. But I didn’t research the position to say if we should or should‘t have jumped at a particular guy at a particular spot.    And everything I read said it was a poor draft for RBs depth wise. I guess when Seattle takes a backup RB in the 1st, that kind of backs that up.    I definitely think we should keep 4 running backs and if King can play well enough then keep him too.    I believe I heard Canales say we are a running team (talking about drafting a WR he will be needing to block as well as catch). Well if we are gonna be a running team by identity we don’t need to stock the WR room to overflowing. If one room has to sacrifice, it should not be the RB room given our circumstances.
    • If there's a pattern I'm definitely picking up from Dan and company is a philosophy of making trades where we try not to sacrifice the number of draft picks we have by day's end. In other words, we're not giving up three picks for one, or giving up a future pick to make a pick today. And even if we give up something at the start, we make trades later to make up for that initial loss. Here's how it stacked up for 2026: How we started: 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 How we ended: 19, 49, 83, 129, 144, 151, 227 (no future picks sacrificed) Ultimately, we moved up two spots in the second to ensure we got someone we coveted, gave up a few spots for our fourth round pick, but then had better picks in the 5th (and got really good value out of them), and had a worse 7th rounder which isn't that big of a loss anyways.  At this point, we can question who they draft, but they're pretty good maneuvering across the draft board.
