This hurts...

The injuries and everything piling up reminds me so much of that fateful season.

Hoenstly though we could be easily 5-1 as well as 1-5 with so many close games we've had, we just can't stay disciplined enough for the wins. Only game I believe we were soundly defeated were the Falcons. But losing definitely opens up windows towards our huge weaknesses.

the 2004 panthers turned it around and came an ass hair away from making the playoffs.

That was a crazy season. We lose Steve Smith and Kris Jenkins, and we lost our top three backs (Stephen Davis, DeShaun Foster, and Rod Smart). We tried Brad Hoover at running back, and then finally stuck in Nick Goings - who had a monster seven-game tear that came out of nowhere and never resurfaced again. I went to my first game that year, it was against Arizona, his breakout three-touchdown game.

And a year before Steve Smith had the triple crown, Moose led the league in receiving yards and touchdowns (a team-record 16). If we had just managed to beat Atlanta (this was before we figured out how to stop Vick) or New Orleans, we would have made the playoffs at 8-8 and could have made a serious run. That team was really, really good down the stretch.

What bothers me more than having to wait for "another" year or so, is the clear decline in team spirit and camaraderie.  Notice camaraderie starts with CAM.  He just doesn't look like he's having fun anymore, and it seems to be affecting everyone. I feel bad for these guys, as none of the coaches or the GM seem to give a shite about THIS season, or the players.

    • I said the conservative play calling was because Canales doesn't think we can win shootouts. Yes, I did say part of that was because of the young, inexperienced receivers and that the OL is better suited for run blocking. I should have also included Young as part of the reason as well but I was responding to the post concerning "young receivers" and Thielens' absence. I am not so enamored with Young that I think all his problems are simply because of the receivers. I do think they overpaid for him and he has not lived up to the cost. He has had his struggles, as does pretty much every rookie qb thrown into a bad situation. But I have seen enough good things to have hope that he continues to get better. The OP is just pointing out how his performance late in the games when the game is on the line is one of those good things.
    • I think it goes both ways  It could be they are used to pocket passers, not someone who constantly has to create throwing zones for himself with pocket movement  point being, whether it is Young or the receivers or the sun or the moon or the wind, can’t win in the nfl without the threat of a downfield attack
