Psst!  Maybe you didn't hear, but patience isn't allowed!  You have to react based solely on your emotions at that time!

I remember we struggled a bit and were bailed out on some great plays with the defense.  Then the MVP train got rolling.  Wouldn't that be nice to have start now?

We had a top 3 defense last year. We have a bottom 3 defense this year. Funny how that works.

I'm convinced that the loss of Norman is the one thing that has sent this defense down the shithole. How they thought they could roll with 3 (three)!! fuging rookie CBs and be ok is an unforgivable mistake.

The offense is not the problem at all with this team. The defense giving up 1000 passing yards against just Atlanta and NO is the problem. Giving up freaking double the amount of points per game as last year is the freaking problem. I'm disgusted and disappointed.

Offense is not the problem but those numbers are skewed.

You have to look at on a game by game basis. In those first 5 games from last season Cam didn't have  a single subpar game, meanwhile this season Cam struggled against Atlanta and Minnesota.

Only huge difference is the 2 extra interceptions.

In other words, the HUGE difference on this team from last year to this year is (1) the defense's lack of ability to stop even a Pop Warner team and (2) Jonathan Stewarts continuing issues with injuries.

Yes, the offense (even with miscues and mistakes and terrible play calls) has been pretty steady. Defense is the biggest problem. But in true fashion, #blameitonCam. We can score, we just can't stop the other team.

Cam has struggled, but mostly due to Qb hits, and pressure.  He hasn't  been as accurate bc of it.  The offensive line has struggled with Remmers they did last year too but the defense was creating turnovers and we were scoring on short drives mixed in with some long drives which kept the ball from the opposition...This year we have the ball but are not scoring points like we should and defense is not creating turnovers.  Those are the reasons we are exact opposite from last year.  In every game I believe we have beat the opposition  in time of possessions except vikings i believe. You hold the ball and not score and the defense does not create more opportunities, score on defense, or stop team from scoring ...having the ball longer is helping the opposition and thats what we are doing...we have to score quick but Cam looks for deep passes to do that well Shula I should say..Teams have caught onto the scheme..we need more short quick passes to get down the field fast bc our defense is not stopping anyone or creating turnovers like they did last year.

Offensive line struggled in the 2nd half vs Minnesota more than anything else...

if you didn't look at the scoreboard you would have thought we would have been up by at least 14 pts at half

He also missed one game.

Historically he has kicked the poo out of Tampa so there's little doubt that would have added at least 2-3 more touchdowns.

Reading this board sometimes makes me want to give someone a lobotomy. It's like no memories here exist before 2011. People take Newton for granted.

The comparison is first 5 games so the numbers are comparable.

I'm not disputing the OP. Simply pointing out the flaw in this idiocy surrounding criticism directed at one player when our whole team has looked subpar at times. Like cutting Bene to make an example out of him when other players are underperforming as much or more.

Even with the pitiful offseason we had, I find the fact that we have taken a clear substantial step back in coaching to be the biggest concern at this point. We have been thoroughly outcoached far too often already.

If you think the Panthers are a bottom 3 defense then you must not watch many other NFL games.

    • Would Morgan or Beason have been HOFers' if injuries hadn't derailed their careers?  I was not a close watcher of the game when Morgan was in his prime but I thought Beason had a few seasons at close to Lukes' level of play.
    • Franchise QBs feast when things are rolling and the tide that raises boats when things are going sideways.  Bryce isn't that. He's a complimentary player, that's it.  When the defense and STs are on point, he plays loose and it shows.  When we are in a dog fight and things haven't gone our way, he struggles.  It's that simple. He's not a horrible QB, but he's not top tier either.  So the question begs, is this worthy of a second contract?  The answer should be no.  It definitely is my answer. Bryce will never be a QB that can produce wins largely on his arm.  That's a FRANCHISE QB, any other QB is simply a placeholder at the starter's position until that guy can be found.   At some point the excuses of lack of weapons will be a straw man.  Heck, it's nearly there now.  I mean if he doesn't look even better than last year will we blame it on the TE position?  'Well if Bryce only had a player like Kelce, Kittle or Gronk on this team...'  Are we really going to do that?
    • When I arrived at college, I was 18, not too much younger than some of these draft picks.  It was not a huge school, but there were guys on the team who were 21, 22, 23....playing ahead of me.  I was seventh on the depth chart.  Those guys have been through a few seasons, were stronger, more knowledgeable.  I was a better raw player than some of them, but those other factors matter.  As I grew stronger, more familiar with the playbook, and learned what it was like to play in college, I gradually improved and with that, I rose up the depth chart.  It took most of my freshman year for the light to come on.  Had the coach thrown me into the starting lineup day 1, I would have probably failed.    And that was college.  So I agree with you based on my experience on a much lower level.  Frankly, I think that is why so many kids drafted to fill huge gaps bust.  The teams are desperate.  Anyone who looks to fill vacancies in the starting lineup through the draft is desperate.  You draft depth to develop.  For this reason, I say, "Let Walker start for a while."  Maybe Brazzell can be our WR 4.  Throw Hunter into a rotation and ask him to do one or two things.  Freeling needs some strength and he needs to work on run blocking.
