Anyone notice how cowardly we play on special teams?

On kick returns instead of actually trying to return the kick we line up in onside formation 70% of time.

 

On FG block, instead of going for the block we play as if the opposing team is going to fake it.

All I know is we don't take kick returning seriously. We have Joe fuging Webb back there for crying out loud. Would've much rather have someone like Byrd returning kicks. And I also can't remember the last time we blocked a FG. I wonder how many we've actually had under Rivera.

Vernon butler blocked one a few weeks ago.  Past that i got nothing.

Maybe 3 returns all year that went past the 25. The majority stop well short of the 25. Out kick return unit may be the worst in the league.

That block had more to do with a low kick. When was the last we had one of those jump over the center blocks? Or a block from one of the gunners

Byrd looked good in preseason had some nice returns. Then season starts and we jog 15 ypr fozzy out there. 

Ive said it all year if I were the other teams I'd never kick it into the end zone against us. Make fozzy and Webb return them. Cause they never get to the 25

Byrd should've been one of the returners on kicks this year. Just one of many personnel fug ups by this team.

How bad Byrd must feel to bust his ass in the offseason and preseason, become one of the stars in preseason,  but yet gets cut in favor of "Rivera's guys".  One of many reasons I think we should move on from Rivera even though we most likely won't.

Who are some guys you think we should look at that will make tough decisions on personnel as well as make our team better?

Rivera does not take special teams seriously. It has been evident since he got here with the scrubs he puts back there on special teams. He should be looking at Seattle as an example that special teams can push you over the top. Just one of the various other reasons I want his ass gone. Same sh*t, different year. Wash, rinse, repeat for the next 5 years.

I remember Byrd fumbling a punt that lost us a preseason game. Not sure if that is the reason he didn't make the 53. 

I do agree that our return game is pathetic. That has to be one area that we look to improve upon this offseason.
