Voth "unplugging" BBR

One of the biggest downfalls of this franchise is the complete lack of transparency and connection with its fanbase.

Seems like no one wants to ask the tough questions of the GM, the President or even the head coach. I could be totally wrong, but I've always had the impression that if anyone did dare ask, they put their credentials at risk. And speak to the owner? Who would dare even attempt such a thing?

I remember the Sunday mornings around BOA from the early days until about 2005 when JR would make his rounds through the lots and visit tailgates and talk to people. Those days are long gone and it seems there is a huge disconnect between the fans and the people that are running the business.

The fanbase needs something like BBR just to give some honest and unbiased reporting instead of just repeating whatever the Panther PR department says.

This is potentially a really sad day for Panthers fans.

I'm not going to waste this space by disparaging other writers, but it's clear that Voth is far and away the best writer to cover this team and he is well plugged in with the organization. If not for the Huddle he would be my sole and go to source for Panthers updates and news. Hell, even with the huddle, I still subscribe to the mailing list and try to find time to read his articles.

If you happen to be reading this Bill, I want to personally thank you for all of your tremendous hard work and stupendous journalism. I truly hope you figure out whatever is best for you, whether that includes the Panthers or not.

What I meant was if there is a way to help BBR like many of us help the huddle on a yearly and monthly basis. I wasn't implying that the site itself had to do so. Or any if us or yourself in particular.

Not sure. Bill put a lot of time in it and is pretty smart on interweb stuff and sports markets. I'm sure he exhausted all options.

    • The problem with these summary stats and rankings is that they flatten out progression and assume an even performance throughout the year. His first 3 or 4 games of the season don't really tell you anything about his current level of capacity but more about where he started and what his floor was last year. Given his last several games were against playoff teams, that gives you an idea of his current ability coming into the season. But it will serve more as a floor than a ceiling given the upgrade in talent on offense. And a better defense should give us more stops which results in shorter fields and more opportunities. And going into his third year there is no reason to suspect he will regress. His success wasn't  based on being superhuman but being smart and taking what was the defense was giving him. Distributing to the other guys not trying to do it on his own. He was great at the end when pressured and consistently moved the ball. That makes him a great game manager which is what we need. Something that is easier to do and relies on everyone else rather than having to be a top physical specimen or do it on his own. No one can predict the future but to say we haven't improved much is crazy given just having the Browns anchoring the defensive line will shut down the run and make sure QBs won't be stepping up in the pocket.  Assuming Evero got the message to can the prevent defense and bend until you break philosophy.
