Fox Sports: Cam Newton Only Has 3 Years Left in the NFL

Large, mobile quarterbacks do not last in the NFL. Let's just start right there with that little bit of knowledge. Ben Roethlisberger is nearing the end of his career at an early age, and he is probably the best example of big quarterbacks with durability. What does that tell you?

Although Cam Newton is only 27 years old, Jason Smith believes that we are much closer to the end of his career than we are to the start of it. In three years Cam Newton will be done as a quarterback in this league.

While I want to flip and out call this stupid and rant for days there is some truth to this if the team keeps letting Cam get beat to hell pretending to be a battering ram with the entire offense strapped to it's back. A human can only take so much punishment before they breakdown and while Cam is more super than most he is still just a man.

The Panthers have done a terrible job surrounding him with talent and the NFL referees have done a terrible job of protecting him as a QB and the Panthers are complicit in that because they just sit back and accept it as an organization. Could you imagine the hell that a Robert Craft or Jerry Jones would be raising if their star QB's head was treated like a piñata every Sunday with nary a flag in sight?

    • yeah, Panther PR has done the Tepper is taking a backseat PR tour before.   It wasn't true at all the first time we saw them attempt that.   All the stuff you are referencing is stuff produced and put out by the Panthers.  I'm not acting like owners aren't in the war room.   I'm just saying Tepper is a proven commodity.  He is what he is.  And his tenure with BOTH his professional sports teams tell the exact same story about him.   He is not patient.  He didn't show patience last year.  He moved on from an absurd investment 2 games into the season.....and a frankly unimaginable turnaround by Bryce that was only allowed by injury reset some things.  I'm sure a billion times Raiders or Dallas or whatever fans convinced themselves their owners turned a new leaf too.  I'm not buying that.  There just isn't anything supporting Tepper isn't Tepper IMO.
    • Well last year the first team offense struggled against the Bills 3rd string defense. First string offense needed to convert a 4th down to score a TD.  If the starters play against backups and do what they are supposed to do, score easily, I’d say the reps are worth it. Would make me feel better. Unlike last preseason.
    • This right here. You also don’t want your 2 nd string oline going against their starting Dline and risk injury to whoever is taking snaps
