Report: Panthers Have Interest In McCaffery As Their 8th Pick

The report that began with a notion that McCaffery would be drafted in the top 10 has now culminated into an assertion the Panthers are considering him at pick number 8. Honestly, I would not be upset at all, as I don't think the gap difference between Fournette and McCaffery's instant impact on this offense is different at all.

In fact, I could argue McCaffery would have more of an impact than Fournette would immediately.

Now, that's not to say I don't want Fournette. I would probably take him over McCaffery honestly, but hear me out. McCaffery is a different style back, and may not be the power type that will replace Stewart. Rather, he'd help evolve our offense into having complimentary shifty runningbacks with a taste of power. Stewart and McCaffery wouldn't be taking time from one another, but impact the offense in some way on the field at the same time. McCaffery is a solid returner, slot receiver, and elusive runningback, hence why I'd say he's the 2nd best back overall.

Also, you realize the 2018 draft is really deep at runningback as well, right? Some argue 2018 may be even deeper than 2017, and we're likely able to get a solid future replacement for Stewart then instead of now. Since we still have Stewart, it would make sense we wait a little bit to get his replacement, and hit on a guy with so many functions to help evolve our offense. McCaffery isn't just average at his many facets; he excels and is a pro at each position he's put into. 

And, that's the end of that. Just know the Panthers have legitimate interest in McCaffery at 8.

I know many on here will poo the bed for even thinking about him in the top 10...

I agree that he serves a very real and interesting purpose for us.  Rivera has said that the offense will evolve, and McCaffrey is the ultimate evolutionary player.  He could help us score TDs and move the chains in a BIG way.  I'd rather trade down and get him around 12-16, but beggers can't be choosers!

Depends on who is left at 8. Christian McCaffrey is a good player and has many different specialties. I do believe if he wasn't white we would see no problem with this. I cannot remember who stated that, but I agree with that assessment. He can handle returns, receiving, and running back. Ron Rivera does like his multi use players. If LF, Thomas, and Adams are gone I guess I would be okay with this. TE and S depth is great this draft. DE depth is okay and a good DE can be had with one of our 2 second round picks. It is not the end of the world if we do pick CMC.

I don't see why we would want to use are number one pick doing special teams as well. That's a good way to get ur guy hurt is playing him at so many positions. That's why I'm kinda against it, I rather a full time player at one position.

Only player that may be there that I want more than CmC is Adams....he's gone....I would be thrilled with this selection.

McC reminds me a ton of Marshall Faulk....and I wouldn't hate for a minute using the 8th on a pick like that.

      Nothing wrong with it at all until you start telling others they are bad fans or not fans. But you are.    I did many years of that type of uninformed fanning because there really was no info and coverage like there is with the internet.    I mean, I used to go to the store and get Street and Smith’s annual football issue. That was about the extent of what you could get if you didn’t live in a big city with sportswriters covering and reporting.  There was no video to look at or replay the games and if you didn’t live in the market you could only rarely see your football team play.    TI have fanned since being a kid in the early 1960s, and as late as 1995 - ‘97 I lived in Atlanta and good luck getting more than 3 or 4 games a year on TV. No radio either. No print coverage outside of an AP recap and box unless they played Atlanta.  People today that have always had the network connection don’t know.    I wasn’t very educated about the Panthers until I finally got internet.

      oh now that's what you call Mother Fiuggure fans the ones that always have this fierce protective shield around the team no matter if they win or lose  & to be honest there is nothing really wrong with being a Mother Fiugguer fan they just have a different meaning or sense of what a true fan really is                                                 ☺️
