Carlos Henderson - Late 2nd or in the 3rd...What Say You Huddle

As someone that is not a college football buff I tend to do most of my prospect familiarization after the combine & the week of the draft/leading up to it. Today was a Leonard Fournette day, but I started looking at Henderson again as some posts here brought his name to my attention, so I just thought I'd share the following...

http://draftbreakdown.com/video/carlos-henderson-vs-navy-2016/

Averaged...read this again, averaged, 30 yards per return (taken from early commentary in this video).

A nice prospect...just depends in who we get first...hoping for a J Ross sighting...but this could be more realistic pick...

What I liked the most was the YAC, he was able to make guys miss on the bubbles, and quick throws turning them into bigger plays, we need that. Also I liked the ability he showed on his two TD's running the back shoulder fades in the red zone at the goal line.

If you keep an eye out even in run blocking he didn't look to give up too soon. Most of them were through the whistle. I'd like him as another outside receiver, since it looks as though that's where he lines up the most. I really like the idea in three receiver sets where Funchess and Benjamin can rotate the slot on those vertical play calls. While we still have a deep threat outside (Byrd/Henderson/Johnson#2)

KB/Funchess/Byrd/Johnson/Henderson/Shepard - is a receiver group I like the potential of, a good mix of size and speed.

I think he'll offer some potential, but I think he'll go higher than he is worth.

We don't have an early third, btw.

I'd rather take Josh Reynolds, Dede Westbrook, Damore'ea Stringfellow, or a couple other guys later in the draft.

He's my 3rd option at WR in the 2nd behind Jones and Godwin. I could even entertain an argument for putting him ahead of Godwin, but Zay Jones has been the guy I've wanted at #40 for a long time now. Pretty much since the Senior Bowl.

I like Godwin a lot, and have run a few fanspeak mocks where he didn't last till our late 2nd, and even a couple where he was taken before 40.....I'm all in.

I like those three plus Taywan Taylor.  I actually see Jones and Henderson filling two different needs for us.

I'm a big fan of Jones also.  I think he is pretty safe pick. From all accounts he has some of the best hands in the draft and I think he is better athlete than some people think.  Worst case he turns into a sure handed, possession type of #2 receiver, a Cotchery with better speed maybe?  Does Cam really have anyone like that at the moment on the roster?

Henderson could be that dynamic, play making, smaller receiver that can also handle return duties.  Here again not something we really have on the roster at the moment.

What is the chance we draft two WRs in the second round?  I know, pretty close to none, although it wouldn't bother me at all.

    • He’s also 21 years old. I don’t know why fiz is so eager to label him a bust
    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
