Setting the Record Straight on McCaffrey

I think of McCaffrey as a better Percy Harvin. Harvin is a little faster, but McCaffrey is bigger. McCaffrey can also run routes-- apparently better than anyone else in this draft. If he came out as a WR I wouldn't blink.

Just because his number and position title say RB, doesn't mean he has to play as one. We still have Stew. I could see us running them together in the backfield and then McCaffrey can slip into the slot or out wide, or they could have a triple option, or other trick/disguised runs or sweeps or screens. The guy can be on the field every down doing something.

He's not bigger than emmitt. Emmitt was a few pounds bigger and much shorter. Compact is better for a RB. Emmitt wasn't skinny and considered small because he was compact and built. McCaffrey isn't.

Emmitt was 5'9" 215.  McCaffery is 6'1' 210.  He will be bigger in the pro weight room within a year.  I really don't understand why folks don't see how talented he really is.  He is a game changer.  I'm not saying I like him over Fournette, I'm just saying we probably wont get a chance to draft Fournette and this guy is really talented.

Is the elephant in the room his skin color?

Go ahead and flame away or call me whatever names tickles your fancy, but it's been brought up by big time analysts as well.

The fact is, you can count on one hand how many white starting RBs there are in the NFL.... and still have fingers left.

CMC is an electric, elusive and versatile athlete with ridiculous footwork, solid NFL frame (6'0" 200 pounds), soft hands, great genetics and NFL pedigree family, top-flight character and work ethic, and has 4.4 speed..... but even moreso, has great game speed.  He can beat you on the ground, in the air, and on special teams.

He is not perfect and a "can't miss prospect", but the dude checks all the boxes and comes from a pro-style offense where he runs out of the gun like we do.

I see the Reggie Bush comps, but I see a hybrid Shady McCoy X Percy Harvin clone.

Sorry, but I know Fournette is the better back, but look how McCaffrey would create new looks/match up problems.

1. He us used to taking handoffs out of the shotgun formation.

2. He is really good behind a FB

3.  He can run good routes and has solid hands.

Fournette is a better RB,  but he gives us power running. His injury history concerns me.  McCaffrey is the better football player, if you ask me.

Remember when Panther fans were scratching their heads about Luke?  I think McCaffrey is one of those players....

It would certainly seem so. Honestly though, I would use him more as a receiver than a RB just to keep the wear and tear down. He's the kind of guy who will do whatever the coach wants anyway, so that wouldn't be a problem.

I feel like McCaffrey is Reggie Bush 2.0

Is that what we really want to draft at #8?

More like Reggie bush 0.5.  Reggie at least had freakish athleticism and ran a 4.3.

Bush 24 bench reps and a 40.5" vert

McCaffrey 10 reps and 37.5" vert

    • It goes deeper than that for me. When I started watching the Panthers as a kid I fell in love with Mark Fields’ story during that SB run. He wore #58. Then TD wore it and kept the tradition of the being the soul of the Panthers. The next time someone wears #58 I hope brings that same spirit
    • T-Mac is a nickname, Tet is a shortening of Tetairoa. Like you said below... your name is Jonathan, I could see "Jonny" being considered a nickname, but Jon isn't a nickname, it's a shortening of Johnathan, see the difference? And if your mom named you Jonathan for it's biblical significance/meaning, because she was very religious, I think it would be different. T-Mac is Polynesian, so much in their culture has deeper meaning for them, particularly names.  So for his mom to feel this way, I highly doubt it's just because she likes the name Tetairoa and not Tet, it's much more likely than not to be because the name itself has a deeper meaning in their culture.   Particularly as T-Mac himself has often talked about how much his Polynesian heritage means to himself and his family. And no, I'm not saying all this because of how much he's my guy, if he was just "normal american" and his name was Jonathan and he didn't like fans calling him Jon, I'd probably just say tough poo.  It's that he's Polynesian and I know things like names have a much deeper meaning in their culture than they do in ours for the most part. For whatever it's worth, a quick google search.......
