I know you love Shula, and I really hope you're right. I want to see this offense evolve.

We have had the personnel available to create nightmare matchups for most of the teams in the NFL.  As it turns out, the thing that holds us back most is us.  Shula has seemed absolutely locked into the mindset of a power run offense dictating to the rest of the league.  This is awesome when it is working, but when you have a team like Denver expose the glaring weakness that so much of the play-action is predicated on this power run game giving the passing attack time to develop routes, it tumbles like a house of cards.

In lieu of an offense running in beast mode all of the time with all of its pieces in place, the best bet for a consistently effective offense is a coach that is able to maximize the strengths of their personnel to exploit mismatches on opposing defenses.  In essence, a power run attack is one that can stand on its opponents' neck to make it damn near impossible to come back on them.  If a defense is crafty enough to make that offense grapple long enough to keep them from the advantage of being impossibly ahead, there is no backup plan.  With an offense that can exploit all manner of weaknesses, its best weapon is that the defense can never truly pin its ears back.  If the defense does try pinning its ears back, make them pay dearly for not playing disciplined.

McCaffery would likely have blown up in an offensive scheme like NO, NE or SEA where their OCs have a proven track record of exploiting matchups to great effect.  With Shula, he could get quashed like Carr at the Texans.

Got to look at the other side of the coin: Shula, Rivera and JOBS.  They have been given an expensive, explosive and game changing toy.  If Shula doesn't use him well, he's going to get fired.  Therefore, it's in Shula's best interest to evolve, adapt, and put out an evolved offense that makes use of CMC's skills.

By the basic idea of survival of the fittest, then I think Shula is going to evolve his offense.  To maximize CMC in his first five years and give Cam some longevity.

Brees and Wilson are great short distance passers. Cam is not good at short soft touch passes. The reason our short game is weak is not because of Shula.

      I'll be honest.  I'm not sure I want to see any those guys returning right now given what others are presently doing.... minus Coker.  Hubbard returning likely messes the run game up (I mean, it's going to come down regardless but he still), Tremble and Evans actually are doing well, Corbett seems to make us worse up front, and the D has made some strides.  I'd like to just keep that whole lot on the shelf this week.

      I don't think people know that Icky is still only 25 years old. Panthers signed UDFAs older this year and drafted DJ Johnson. Heres a fact, a deep fact.... Its easier(much) to find a good-great QB than good-great LT. Another fact there's only 12-15 true LTs and the others are larping as LT.  SO....(I'm not a fan btw)......you nearly must resign him at all cost even with him being around the 12th best at times. Its the hardest spot to fill and he's still awful young with 4 years as a pro. Carolina already got 4 years of "cheap" service as well, that's invested time and effort.  The fan-side of me hopes he signs some top 5 at best top 3 big money deal. Just the cap keeps growing and LTs, young LT with experience are rrrrrrare and unique. Tag him if needed and tag him again, then trade him. I think he enjoys being/living in NC.  I hope he's stays on a team friendly deal, but those are soooo rare these days.  Only two options- pay him whatever, even if it's top $$$$$(uggggghhhh..) or tag him for 2027 and keep trying to pay. Worst outcome is trading him for couple 1s, 3s, and 5th maybe a player too.

      I always loved DJ Moore.  I don't see him wanting to comeback here.  He seems to be tired of inconsistent QB play and you finally see that bubbling over in Chicago.  or maybe he just doesn't like the people.  He actually seemed fine with Fields.....and lobbied for them not to draft Caleb.  So maybe it's just a Caleb issue (and I think Caleb might have tons of baggage/issues that rub folks wrong)
