San Francisco 49ers Have Cut WR KD Cannon

Nearly every one of these highlights is of him running a 9.

Damn...you're right. I watched the whole tape and they're all go routes or a variation of a hitch or screen. No slants, corners, posts, outs, speed outs...unless the highlights just wanted to show "big plays", his route tree must be lacking

Yep, gotta love the raw ability, but can he actually be an NFL WR? Baylor WRs are very limited in their routes. That doesn't necessarily mean that can't be coached up to run the full route tree, but a guy with Cannon's abilities and power conference D1 production rarely goes undrafted. It's not like he was flying under the radar. Everyone knew about this guy and I'm sure ever team looked into him to some degree. Not a single one of them deemed him worthy of one of their draft selections. That says a lot, but it's not completely damning. Guys who eventually become solid NFL players go undrafted every year. But, for the 49ers to pick him up, give him $45k signing bonus (that's big guaranteed money for a UDFA) then cut him loose after rookie mini-camp? Damn. That's unusual. There's a reason for that for sure. Whether he's dumb as a rock, has attitude issues, something came up off the field, SOMETHING came to light to cause them to cut bait on this kid this quickly.

    • Well, they're both in the same league (if you will). During preseason, Fitz went 3/3 & Sauls went 5/6, but of course Sauls was 4/4 last night (including one 50+). Both were Lou Groza Award finalists. I believe Fitz made two 55+ yarders last season, while Sauls led the nation with three. Fitz was 13/13 (💯) while Sauls was 21/24 (87.5). Fitz was a 3rd-Team AP All-American, while Sauls was a PFF All-American.  Career-wise, Fitz was 58/74 (78.4), while Sauls was 52/64 (81.3). I wish that I could see the attempts and knew the depth of yardage. I wish that we could compare practice kicks during their training camps, but we can't. Maybe someone with a PFF/CFF account can give that Basically it's just a matter of belief I guess. Seeing dude knock down four FGs and go perfect during a pressure-filled game for him is damned impressive if you ask me. I don't believe that Fitzgerald could do that.  That being said, I'd have to know more. I will say that it may be worth mentioning that we seem to like PFF this year and Sauls being a PFF All-American may be notable. Now that being said, the Panthers may not be even considering Sauls.
    • Ive said it 1000x times on here.  Our 2025 season will be dictated by the first 4 games.  poo the bed there and lose all confidence and momentum, we win 5 games maybe.  Go 2-2, 3-1 we got a look at 7/8 wins
    • I basically made almost the exact predictions on a phone call with a buddy about 3 weeks ago. I really do expect Evero gone before the seasons end, Young to just not able to get over the hump enough and DC to head into next season on a VERY hot seat.
