There are plenty of places in Charlotte with manufactured kitsch that serve greasy burgers and fried pickles. The Penguin wasn't that great to begin with.

They sold 16 year olds cigarettes and beer

that place was a Mecca, just like that jackrabbit place

Lots of hipsters in this thread.  There's a great Applebees off of Rea Rd and 485 - nevermind, they closed that down.  There are a couple Olive Garden's in and around the suburbs: Pineville, Matthews, University, take your pick.  Several TGI Fridays I think.

Enjoy your stay!

Not in CLT, but my wife and I had an incredible meal at Kindred in Davidson when we were there last year.

I know it's not something you'd travel for, but we still talk about how good the milk bread was. (Also we miss Bojangles like crazy)

Meh Charlotte dining has gone downhill since they got rid of Morrison's Cafeteria in Southpark. Hard to find a decent meat and three. Gus-Sir-Beef's, I guess but they don't have the blue/green/orange jello. Of course that was before it was trendy to live in the poor neighborhoods. Man, I don't understand charlotte anymore.

Fahrenheit is terrible value for the food(the grilled avocado is very good). Just go up there, get a drink/app and take a picture. I spent 150 bucks there for 2 and totally regretted it. Any steakhouse around town is better.

Ate there last Friday evening with my boss... the views (both of them) were excellent... the food was good, but it was expensive, but it was on the company so I'm good. :)

Mad Hatter is right about King's Kitchen also... fantastic.  Aria is my boss's brother's place and it's upscale/expensive but also excellent.

Co-sign on Aria. One of our favorite restaurants in uptown.
