8 years of no playoffs

Why do people insist like going 7-8-1 making the playoffs was some great thing by Gettleman? If 7 wins counted for a playoff in 04 then hurney would have us in the playoffs 3 years in a row too lol.

Gettleman made plenty of mistakes along the way and getting us under the cap is nothing to brag about when it's jumped just shy of 60 million since he got here and he has been unable to produce back to back winning seasons.

There was no consistency or long term plan for sustained success that seemed to be working.

Drafting guys like Shaq and Vernon Butler to ride the pine in the 1st round was not good choices. Ealy was a very bad choice.

Many loved to hate on Hurney saying you could draft a good RB in late rounds and said he was an idiot for ever using a 1st round pick on one. Then go on to heap praise on  Gettleman for drafting one top 10.

This bizarre Gettleman love fest the huddle developed without any real merit besides endorphins flying from free pie party's for exaggerating his greatness did not make much sense.

Gettleman finally humbled himself and admitted he made many mistakes and I was genuinely liking the things he was saying in hopes that it meant he'd get better a building a consistent winner. The Matt Kalil  massive deal was a head scratcher but Gettleman backed himself into a corner where he had to try and do something other than Trot Byron Bell,Nate Chandler or Mike Remmers out at LT again. So I gave him the benefit of a doubt for that.

Complain all you want if it makes you sleep better but that chapter is over and it's time to move one.

Shaq shouldn't have been drafted if Jerry wasn't going to let us move on from TD. He should have told Gettleman that.

Why move on from one of your best players and leaders when still playing at a high level? Age? Then why did pull the plug on Norman?

G-man forced Gross out a year early and that backfired on him. Smith shouldn't have been booted either, as we still haven't replaced him with anyone near his talent level.

Gettleman's main contributions to this team have been Star and Short. Here's a fun excerise, how many other players can you find that were big contributors in 2013  and 2015 (our 2 winning seasons since Gman got here) that were brought in by Gettleman?  Or let's even say we win again in 17. How many players from the 15 roster that were brought in by Gettleman can you say were big contributors in 15 and 17 (assuming we bounce back this year)?

On the flip side think about how many Hurney added and he's been gone since 2012

So following are Dave's starters in 15

3/4 of Dline

4/5 of Oline

3/4 starting secondary (in 2015, all now Dave's),

3/3 at WR

1/3 at LB

0/1 at QB

0/1 RB

0/1 at TE

I would say of those, Coleman was huge, Harper, gets a bad wrap but he was important, as were the crew in 13 at both safety spots. At WR, I'd say Ginn was pretty important in 15, same with JC. Rest of oline, Oher, Norwell, Turner, heck even Remmers. That line worked well when Shula didn't muck up SB. Shaq and Boston as backups were good situational guys for depth.

So mostly Dave's roster. He got huge performances out of Hurney guys, but his guys are a damn big reason for the turn around. Also helped that RR went full riverboat mode with Dave in the perfect place to can RR and co.

That's what Hurney gave us. We were out of the playoffs one year with Dave at the helm. Just let that sink in and now understand what lies ahead.

True.

Can also look at the fact that we have now gone to 2 Super Bowls and 3 NFC Championships largely off the backs of Hurney's guys.

also, you gotta at least note that Dave got in with a 7 win ball team.

We are the 3rd best team in our division right now, so we could see 8 more years of no playoffs. Some of you may say I'm wrong, but until this team proves other wise, it is what it is. Lol.

Is there a huge difference between the 15-1 Super Bowl team and this one.

All it takes is a healthy season and not allowing comical holes.  Dave created comical holes last season.

Best team in the NFCS this season will likely be the healthiest.  Worst team will likely be the one with the most impactful injuries IMO.

That las NFC Championship and SB was with Gettleman's roster and, more importantly, he had us set up for the long haul instead of scraping by year after year with crappy draft classes like Hurney brought us.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
