Wide receivers update....

So after a whopping 3 days in camp, here is how things are shaking out.

Locks.

KB

Funch

Shepard

Samuel

The rest, in order of how many reps they are getting higher up on the depth chart.

Bersin

Byrd

Duke

Garrett

Ross

Frazier

Graham

Clay

So it is important to look at the type of players the locks are when looking at the rest. For instance, Bersin may be at the top of the bottom list, but with KB, Funch, and even Shepard being similair size, his chance of making the team may not be greater.

The Panthers really need to add speed to that group. Makes me thing Byrd, Duke, or Ross are likely to have a shot more so than Bersin and Garrett. Remember a few years back when Rivera realized mid season they had no speed in the receiving corps? I think he remembers that.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
