Should we pump the breaks on the Byrd enthusiasm just a bit?

Listen, I am just as excited as anyone about his prospects. I think he could end up contributing this year.

But... should we have any caution in our unbridled optimism? Or shall we instead throw that same caution to the wind and rock out with out cocks out?

I am on the fence here. Let me know.

I doubt he ever puts up those numbers in the regular season. To many receiving options  ahead of him and the coaching staff is too loyal to a fault

This. I believe he has the potential to be something Ginn wasn't but is he actually going to receive adequate opportunities to showcase.

Def pump the breaks bc it was just a preseason game. I hope he breaks out bc someone is going to have to be a relevant receiving option other than Benjamin and Olson. I can't wait to see Samuel on the field.

Not foolish to be optimistic. Byrd is a deep threat, probably the fastest WR, and with more reliable hands than Ginn. Say what you want, but Cam has one of the strongest arms in the league and he likes to take shots downfield.

Valid point.

He certainly isn't shy about airing it out.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
