Week 1 NFL Real Men of Genius

I always loved the Real Men of Genius commercials and after watching Kyle Shanahan's 4th down play calling yesterday I thought he deserved his own, so I present....

Mr. Risky 4th Down Play Caller

Carolina Huddle presents: Real Men of Genius

(Real men of genius)

Today we salute you, Mr. Risky 4th Down Play Caller.

(Mr. Risky 4th Down Play Caller)

Steadfast in the belief you can move the ball on a defense that whipped your @ss all day, you’re a real maverick.

(He’s a maverick baby!)

Sure Brian Hoyer’s no Cam Newton, but he’s got moxie, and moxie plus an interior lineman named Fusco are all you need to win in the NFL.

(Fusco’s coming for you!)

You may have crapped the bed up 28-3 in the Super Bowl, but you’re Kyle Freaking Shanahan, 1st of your name, father of Matty Ice, and you’ve got all the answers.

(Falcons blew a 25-point lead!)

So crack open an ice-cold brew, Skeletor Jr., because we all know, when the going gets tough, you panic and become too predictable.

Yeah that was an idiotic call when they were not moving the ball at all.

I pied this as I agree to a point but I do think it was the right call.  His team wasnt going anywhere and I think he was playing the statistical average (were they averaging a couple yards a play) and thinking he could sneak one through.  Maybe not win the game but create a positive.  Cant really fault him for that.

But alas it failed miserably.  And yes.  Atlanta still lost the SB after blowing a 28-3 lead.

True...I see both sides...basically he had to make the call

    • Damn I liked A'Shawn too. This is basically a heads up we're planning on cutting you move.  Robinson wasn't the best but I loved his attitude and effort on the field. He held that entire dline together when Brown went down iirc..granted we finished that season as the worst rushing defense in modern NFL history.  If Wharton would have performed up to atleast half of his salary last season, I'd feel a little better about it. We do need that cap space though.
    • 13. Carolina is coming. The Panthers are well thought of around the league. Their "process" seems sound. I think their off-season will be very interesting to keep an eye on. They made the playoffs, but they're not yet knocking on the door. (Offense was 26th in EPA/play.) I think it's imperative they don't overestimate where they are in their build. They can't throw a ton of money around in FA to "make a run now". They need to be intentional about building a solid foundation. (IMO) And from what I know about the team... I think they will be. Sidenote: I have my eye on offense there, not defense. They HAVE to leave next season with a strong opinion on Bryce Young. They need to put pieces around him to do that. Can't be left wondering what he would have looked like with "better OL play" or "more pass catchers". They have to know. (That part is purely my opinion. No one told me that.) https://x.com/lindsay_rhodes/status/2027212533417869499?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • Because this DL is completely reliant on Brown being available and being a stud. Without him we were the worst D in history. The Wharton signing last year reeked of desperation. He just isn't a great fit for us schematically and I think we panicked a little bit when we missed out on Milton Williams who would have been a great fit.
